All About Me
Literacy
We read some fantastic stories this week. In Hippo-Not-Amus and Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon we learned that we should be proud of who we are and all of our accomplishments. We created a class book in which each child wrote something they can do. Some of our creations said, “I can help” or “I can tap”. We also had so much fun reading Giraffes Can't Dance! We learned to make our own unique giraffes and painted a beautiful background for our giraffes to live on.
We also began our phonics program this week, Words Their Way. We explored the -ad and -an families and loved using our bead blenders to hear each sound in the words. The students also learned to use their fingers to tap out the sounds of the words. Everyone did a great job sorting their new words and were excited to finally start using their phonics journals. We will continue this program throughout the year and your child’s journal will grow each week!
