Title Week for Titans
June 2, 2022
On Saturday, The Boys Outdoor Track Team traveled to Hilton High School for the Section V Championship meet. There were 11 Boy's teams at the meet each competing for an opportunity to become this year's Section V champions.
It was quite the afternoon for the Titans as they were among the top two teams at the meet, battling back and forth with the Royal Comets of Rush Henrietta all afternoon.
As the evening began to come to a close, the Titans and Comets were neck and neck down to the last couple of events, but in the end, it was the Juniors, Evan L.and Connor T. who already took first and second place in the 3000 meter steeplechase earlier in the afternoon, coming back later in the meet to both place second and fourth in the 3200 meter to seal the deal for the Titans.
This allowed them to jump ahead to a comfortable lead and eventually coast to the victory for their FIRST ever Section V Championship Title in Outdoor Track and Field, beating the Comets by a score of 126-111.
Other athletes who contributed to the victory were Senior Erik S., a sure MVP candidate in the meet, winning both the Shotput and Discus throws. Senior, Jackson G. took 2nd place in the 100 high hurdles, gutting out the race with a season long injury, yet almost winning it.
Sophomore, Jerry L. took 2nd in the 800 while running a season's best performance in the event. Junior Cory J. took three third place finishes in the 110 High Hurdles, Triple Jump and the 400 Intermediate Hurdles, making his mark on the meet.
And finally the Seniors Julian B. and Jacob S. placed third and fourth overall after a long afternoon of events in the Pentathlon which put a stamp on the final victory for the Titans.
There were many other contributions made during the afternoon from team members across the board and they will now continue their season as they travel to Eastridge for the State qualifying meet this Friday afternoon.
The girls track team placed 7th in Class A1 Sectionals on Saturday. Placing for the Titans were: Carolyn M. who was 5th in the 800, Sage A. 6th in the mile, Jenna M. was 6th in the 400 hurdles. Thomas' Courtyard Stage Makes its Debut!
The Neighbors is a collection of short one-act plays written by Webster Thomas students. It will be the inaugural performance on the new Thomas Courtyard stage, which has been built by our GeoTech class. The show will include:
The Party, by Giuliana DiTullio: Five college seniors wake up in their trashed apartment after a night of poor choices. With family on the way, can they clean up their act in time?
The Will, by Kilian Laird: A dysfunctional family comes together for the reading of Grandma’s will. Can the estranged sisters set aside years of petty bickering?
The Heirloom, by Frank Russo: A sibling rivalry blows up, and Dad’s precious family heirloom is caught in the cross-fire. Can Freddy prove his innocence?
The Ghost, by Jenna Dow: Rosalind and Charlie come home for her mother’s funeral, but strange things are afoot.
The Mouse, by Catherine Magaw: Moving to take care of an elderly mother is hard enough, but Christine and George weren’t planning on a little houseguest.
Come celebrate the talent and hard work that makes Webster Thomas such a special place! The show will run on Thursday, June 9, and Friday, June 10 at 7:30 pm. General Admission tickets will be $10, and can be purchased here. We’ll have signs up around the building to help you find our new stage, but it’s easiest to park in the Northeast parking lot by the Field House. If it rains, we plan on moving into the auditorium.
Alumni Car Show 2022
Last week I was approached by four students following the Buffalo and Uvalde shootings. Molly S., Keira H., Elsie F. and Grace S. proposed a student-led walk out to occur on June 2nd at 1:30 to raise awareness about gun violence in America. I told the students that this would be entirely their planning and implementation and that if they were serious about it and could pull it off, I would support it. Well..they are and they did. Job Well done Titans!!
