Great Barrier Reef
The Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef system on the planet. It is over 1,600 miles in length, located off the coast of Queensland,Australia. There you can find a huge range of fish species and plant species. Some are lucky enough to see large sea turtles. Coral create calcium carbonate which forms a hard, shell-like skeleton, so don't break the reef. More than 1,500 fish species live on the reef. Warmer ocean temperatures put stress on coral and lead to coral bleaching. Marine animals called coral play an important role in the formation of the Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef can be seen from outer space.
