LRMS: FINAL Week at a Glance
May 23, 2016 - May 27, 2016
Sayings from Skinner
How the year has flown by!!! It is just so hard to believe we are at this point -- but in the words of the great poet Barry Manilow, "Looks like we made it!" THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for all that you have poured into our students, our school, and our community. I know that you all have truly given your all -- and our kids, school, and community (and each other, I believe) are better for your generous spirits!! We have much to celebrate this week, even as we're still pushing kids to do their best, to take advantage of the final opportunities, and to still "rise to the occasion," so I hope you WILL find time to share a laugh or two with a colleague, relish in a success or two that you know you've accomplished, and enjoy a moment or two in the busy-ness of filling out forms, finalizing grades, corralling kids, and getting it all done by the various deadlines!
Holler if you need anything --- and try to "Stay Calm and Carry On!!" --- The Long Weekend is COMING!!!!!
Love y'all!
Sarah
NEWS YOU CAN USE!!!!
Read Here and Be In the Know!
**To Sunshine Meeks and all the Connections Teachers (and everyone else who chipped in) to make FIELD DAY 2016 a HUGE Success (and I think the kids being "left behind" made a significant impact, so thank you to those who "babysat" on Friday!) -- and KUDOS to the Kona Ice Truck(s) --- I think they were floored how many were purchased!! Thanks, Brigette Brown, for arranging that treat!!!
**To Dr. Jackson., Ms. Pavon, and Ms. Anderson-Archer, and EVERYONE who worked together to make the 8th grade/GUFG Masquerade Ball a HUGE success. It was a TON of fun; the kids had a blast; the decorations were awesome; the music was appropriate; and everyone (faculty and students) looked amazing!!!! Thank you to everyone who came, worked on the event, danced (or picked me up off the floor), helped clean up, and monitored the last few kids (which, fortunately, was not super late!).
**Thanks to Steven Alphabet for all the work on the 2016 Torch Run, and for being gracious and flexible in the postponement of the event until Wednesday, May 25th!
**CONGRATS to Karen Slough, Wendy Tait, and Scott Hartley (19th place finish) for running in and conquering the First Annual Quarry Crusher Run this past Saturday -- just ask them about the challenge -- so proud of you all for such awesome effort!!
**Raider Strong Mentoring Program for 2016-17 -- THANKS to Dawson Devitt for putting this together for our incoming Radloff Raiders for next year -- and ongoing appreciation to Dr. Alicia Jackson and Lisa Wells for their work with the New Teacher Network. Congrats to all who have completed the New Teacher Network for this year as well as the mentors (official and unofficial) who supported the new teachers throughout the year -- and to all of the 2016-17 Mentors who have already said "yes" to being available to serve as a support in the coming school year -- thank you in advance!!!
*Club Sponsors, Coaches, Volunteers -- thank you to the MANY of you who served our students and our school in a variety of settings -- from the PBIS Committee to intramural coaching, from Robotics League to Readers' Rally, from Footbol Club to our various athletic teams, from working with Relay for Life to serving on the Advisement Committee -- you all have been amazing in 2015-16!! And we'll celebrate you at our luncheon --- and don't forget that there are still spaces available for some sponsors for next year --- see Rasheedra Nelson, if you're willing to help out!!!!
2) RETIREE Celebration!! Tuesday, May 24 -- Don't forget to come and celebrate our Retirees (Pam Buckland and Kathy O'Rear) with some early-morning munchies (starting at 7:45 a.m. in the Media Center) -- and feel free to bring some goodies to share with the attendees and faculty!
3) Wednesday -- May 25th; Revised Schedules!! --- make sure to print the REVISED schedule for the day AND the REVISED Grab-n-Go Schedule --- to make sure we can get in the Torch Relay, the Paloozas, the 8th grade Walk, and all the festivities!
4) Buses on Wednesday -- Things to Know:
- Dismissal will start at 3:50 -- DON'T let kids miss the bus!
- Walk out with your final students to "waive them away" for the summer
- Do NOT send food down with the kids (they may NOT carry food on the buses, so even if you are trying to be kind and send home left-overs, know that the kids have to trash them prior to getting on the bus!!!)
- Students MAY carry certificates or other paperwork home with them.
5) Don't forget to turn in your Camp Radloff Reservation Form!!! This is due to Lisa Wells ASAP, so we know how many to plan for -- she has extra forms if you need one!
6) Grading Deadlines -- follow the email from Amanda -- DON'T be late on this!!!
7) Parent Contact is ESSENTIAL at this point -- make sure you are calling parents of ANY student who will fail your class!!!!
8) Talk up Getting Smarter via Summer Work for ALL students at all grade levels -- let kids know that they will have reading to do for Radloff Reads and Math work to do via Math Galaxy (or the Pre-Algebra Course) -- all will be self-paced -- and all will be through eClass --- and ALL will be for a grade. The details will be mailed in the report card envelopes!!!
9) Any Excuse Notes in/around your desk?
All Attendance notes MUST be turned in to GL offices or the Front office by Wednesday, May 25th -- so the info. can be entered and be correct on the report cards!!!
10) See any "extra" or "loose" textbooks lying around? Leaving Radloff this year?
Making sure ALL textbooks that are "loose" get to the media center -- we have a LOT of missing books, and my guess is that they are simply misplaced around the building -- help us by taking ALL of that to the Media Center.
If you are LEAVING Radloff, make sure that you LEAVE BEHIND anything that was purchased with Radloff's school or Title 1 funds -- that includes Staff Development Resources, Teacher Resources, etc. -- Return these to the Media Center.
11) Don't forget to the take the SAI and Radloff surveys (remember you need to print the final page of the Radloff survey) --- see Amanda if you forgot to do this, so you have your "ticket out the door" for Friday!
12) Feel free to wear JEANS or shorts (NO Daisy Dukes) on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday!!! You will have "free time" on Thursday to get things done -- and then, pay close attention to the "to do's" for Friday (the 27th).
HR teachers -- when you bring your report cards and envelopes to the Activities Room on Friday AM -- be prepared for the APs to check EACH report card. You may "stuff" your envelopes in that room with the other papers that will go into the envelopes (i.e., Title 1 Parent Newsletter, Info. about Summer Reading and Math Work, ACCESS/ESOL info, Fitness Gram info., missing textbook/equipment/fine info) along with the report cards. You will seal those there -- THEN, you will need to report to the Records Room to FILE the other copy of the signed report cards (and a few other documents) for your HR students. EACH HR teacher must complete this task prior to having Sara Paucar sign your year-end check out list.
10) Year-end Checkout list -- do NOT put N/A down for all the spaces . .. unless you are certain they truly don't pertain to you (i.e., it is an item for a HR teacher and you are a Connections teacher) -- if you get to Skinner, and you've just marked N/A in some of the spaces, she will send you back for signatures -- so better to get them before Friday afternoon!!!!
