HSSF FOOD DRIVE NEXT WEEK - BOXED OATMEAL/BOXED FRUIT SNACKS

  • Outstanding lunch account balances for low to middle income families in need
  • Community food pantries serving HSE students and families
  • Snack Attack program, led by Fishers Youth Assistance, which currently serves nearly 500 students
  • Summer Meals Program, led by Fishers Youth Assistance, which served 757 students in 2021
  • Courier/Transportation needs for food delivery
  • Transportation/storage assistance for HSEF Turnover Hunger food drive
  • Turnover Hunger 2022 collected 30,702 snack items

TURNOVER HUNGER 2023
September 5-8, 2023

In past years, Hamilton Southeastern Education Foundation has facilitated PastaBowl, a food drive where local students donated pasta that was distributed to local food pantries the same week as the Mudsock football game. In 2021, HSEF partnered with Fishers Youth Assistance Program to support the Turnover Hunger program. Our HSE Schools community collected 30,702 snack items during Turnover Hunger 2022!

We are excited to continue Turnover Hunger this year. From September 5-8, HSE students can bring in food donations to help stock local food pantries and assist with local programs that support food insecurity. There will be collection bins ready for donations at each school location!

  • Grades PreK-4: boxed oatmeal or boxed fruit snacks

SEPTEMBER BOOK OF THE MONTH

A silly and heartwarming picture book about a poop-loving dung beetle who learns not to hide the quirks that make him special. Dougie has a secret: he's not a ground beetle. He's a dung beetle, and he loves eating poop. Dougie knows that if anyone at school saw his lunch, he'd be an outcast. But when the lunchroom bugs out over a classmate eating poop, Dougie has to stand up for his friend and reveal his true self. Dougie's declaration that he's proud to be a dung beetle leads to surprising revelations from his classmates, showing that everyone is a little weird in their own way! I Eat Poop is about friendship, fitting in, and about how different tastes make the world a more interesting place.

LIBRARY NEWS

Hooray! The next few weeks classes will begin visiting and checking out books in the library. We will review book care procedures including:

  • Don’t eat or drink when reading a book.
  • Keep your books away from pets.
  • Keep your books in a safe place.
  • Use a bookmark to mark your place.

We would LOVE to have help in the library. If you are interested in helping out in the library this school year, please visit https://forms.office.com/r/h5wAsTHJxb and answer a few questions about the areas in the library in which you would like to help. We would greatly appreciate help shelving books, labeling books, or help checking out kindergarten/first grade classes. Please keep in mind that to volunteer you will need to have a background check on file with the school. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Carrie Sturges (Teacher Librarian) at csturges@hse.k12.in.us Thank you!
