Torrey Hill Intermediate School
Newsletter for January 2021
A Note From The Principal- Mrs. Conover
“Teacher says, ‘Every time a bell rings, an angel gets his wings,’” a famous quote by ZuZu Bailey in the movie, “It’s A Wonderful Life” reminds me daily as our school bell rings at 9:15 am that an incredible team of 50+ angels on our Torrey Hill staff don their wings and begin educating an eager community of students.
As I’m sure our Torrey Hill Intermediate School families are aware, this school year teachers and support staff have gone above and beyond to engage students in blended, in-person, and remote learning opportunities. With these new platforms and expectations, we’ve seen teachers and staff adapt to every obstacle thrown their way in order to keep learning moving forward. I am so grateful and proud of our staff and students who, with nary a complaint, have stepped up to the challenge of giving as solid an education as possible to each student in their charge.
I've also heard the many challenges our families are facing! Some have dealt with illness and/or losing loved ones. While others have faced daily challenges as essential workers or at-home "teachers" of our youth. I understand this is a huge undertaking for all and cannot thank you enough for your patience, determination and grit.
May this holiday season bring you and yours the much needed love, joy and peace that I am sure you all deserve.
Please continue to research and/or utilize these wonderful resources below to assist you in your time of need.

The Board of Education will meet on January 11th to determine more about our 2nd semester learning platforms.
Based on the results of the November learning platform family applications, changes were made to class lists. If your family was NOT notified by 12/22/2020, via phone or email, your student will remain assigned to the same teacher.
In early January, teachers will reach out to all NEW families with classroom updates/information.
The following will be in effect for all learning platform options:

Start and end times will not change (9:15 AM-2:55 PM).
Busses will be running all routes on all days. Please note, for blended students, there will not be social distancing available on busses. All students are still required to wear masks while on the bus.

ATTENDANCE
If a student is not in attendance for an a.m. or p.m. live teacher-led meeting, they will be marked absent. If absences occur regularly, the teacher will be required to check-in with the student at least twice per week and keep a two-way log. Families will be notified if two-way logs will be used for attendance. Keeping track of communications, via the logs, will help support student learning in lieu of the Face to Face (F2F) time. The check-in information must be logged into our student information system as part of the attendance requirement. This two-way accountability piece is put in place at the state level.
We realize there have been some issues with connectivity and are not marking students tardy or absent if the concerns are wide-spread. If your student is being marked absent often and you feel it is due to connection issues, please notify your student's teacher or call the Torrey Hill office.
