PHS Update
November 15th, 2017
At Tuesday Night Showcase, PHS Staff Load Bases, Hit Home Run
Last night, Petaluma High staff again came through in the clutch, driving home the point that PHS is an excellent choice for high school education to more than 350 parents and prospective students. Departments and programs were beautifully prepared and gave succinct, on target information describing each program. Link Crew, BSA, and ASB students complemented staff on tours, helping with translation, and providing the all important student perspective.
Does it make a difference? In the group of about 35 that I lead, two parents at separate moments pulled me aside and told me they had no idea we did that and that they were no longer "on the fence." Each said they now felt confident sending their child here. When we come together and present the attributes of the school, it removes doubt from a worried parent and opens eyes to the remarkable work you do. Home run!
In a sea of excellence, thank you to Gio and Debi for pulling this all together, updating brochures, arranging buses for the daytime tours, communicating with other schools, arranging the gym, communicating with teachers and students, taking care of details that make things look seamless. Thanks to our undermanned custodial staff for putting in the extra time to spruce up. And a big thank you to Ashley Collingswood, our district communications and outreach coordinator for her expertise in marketing material, posters and communication.

Trojans Fight Hard But Eventually Fall to Acalanes
The Trojans went on the road and proved they belonged in the very tough Division 3 NCS playoffs last Friday evening. Cheered on by a boisterous PHS cheering section, the Trojans moved the ball throughout the contest. At halftime, the Trojans trailed 28-17. After forcing an early second half turnover, the Trojans had the ball at the Acalanes 38 yard line but could not sustain the drive. After an Acalanes score, the Trojans battled back with a long and productive drive followed by a two point conversion, closing to 35-25 as the 3rd quarter wound down.
Unfortunately, the fourth quarter didn't go the Trojans way. Two costly turnovers were converted to Acalanes points and the Trojans weren't able to close any further. The final score was in no way representative of the Trojans' play on the field. A few plays here and there and things might have been different.
All in all, an excellent season for the Trojans (8-2). We will lose some talented seniors to graduation but the current junior class will be ready to pick up this season next fall on the newly minted Ellison Field. Go Trojans!
