Weekly Academics
Reading Street:
•Question of the Week; “How can an adventure cause trouble?”
•Amazing words: cottage, porridge, bears, big, middle-sized and small
•We recognized and named uppercase and lowercase letter: Gg, Ll, Hh, Oo, Dd, Kk, Rr, Ii, Mm, Cc, Pp, Tt, Ss, Bb. Nn and Aa
•Identified words with initial and final /g/ like gap and log
•Students were introduced to consonant blends with /l/, /r/, /t/ and /p/ in initial and final positions. For example: clap, list, and grape. We also continue to practice with diagraphs (ch, sh and th)
•High- frequency words: I, am, the, little, to, a, have, is, we, like, me, he, for, me, she, with, see, look, they, you, of, that, are, do, one, two, three, four, and five
•Telling sentences and characters
•Used our “rubber bands” to help sound out various CVC words like chip, flap and frog
•Advertisement
•Some of our favorite books that we read are Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Fancy Nancy, The Water Cycle, Water is Everywhere and Curious George Makes Pancakes
Handwriting:
•Practiced writing uppercase and lowercase letters Gg, Ll, Hh, Oo. Dd, Kk, Rr, Ii, Mm, Cc, Pp, Tt, Ss, Bb. Nn and Aa
•Helpful strategies when writing (finger spacing, capital letters, punctuation)
enVision Math:
•Sorting, classifying, counting and categorizing data
•Describing objects by more than one attribute / Graphs
Social Studies/Science:
•Investigating water parts / Water cycle / Buoyancy
•The students had the opportunity to be hands on and place objects into a tub of water to see whether the objects would sink or float. Students were asked to make a prediction prior and explain their reasoning.
•Earth Day related topics (pollution, ways to help keep our environment clean, and natural resources)

Friday, April 15th: Trip to the Teddy Bear clinic
