First 2 Weeks of School = Orientation Weeks
During the first 2 Weeks of School students will participate in an orientation period where they will review guidelines/expectations and build classroom community.
Students will begin curriculum instruction on Week 3.
All lessons will be in your child’s Google Classroom for both Virtual Academy and Remote Learning. Students will receive the same instruction and assignments for both learning options.
Wake county has a new website at wcpss.net/techguides to support students and parents with online learning.

Student Attendance - What to Expect?
Attendance will be taken daily - again with flexibility as key. Students who have a two-way interaction with a teacher such as a virtual classroom meeting, email or phone call, and/or are turning in daily assignments will be counted present.
Grading Norms, K-5
Below are grading norms that are specific to elementary schools.
Elementary schools will operate using the standards-based grading system (Levels 1-4) for all elementary courses. The 100 point scale will be used for middle school courses taken in elementary school.
Due to the structure of the online environment, homework is not applicable. Students will be engaged in independent activities, which may be graded after adequate instruction and feedback have been provided.
Missing assignments and participation are communicated through the work habits grade on the report card.
The Extended Content Standards are substantially modified standards that are aligned to the NC Standard Course of Study. Students accessing those Extended Content Standards will be graded on his or her achievement in the Extended Content Standards curriculum and this would be reflected in the ECS report card.
Elementary schools will operate using the standards-based grading system (Levels 1-4) for all elementary courses.
Due to the online environment, homework is not applicable. Students will be engaged in activities reflecting the standards being taught in each unit, which will be graded after adequate instruction and feedback.
Missing assignments and participation will be communicated to the parents.
A Message from Mrs. Binnick, Art Teacher
Hello PRE Families,
I am looking forward to teaching your children Art this year. In order to make the remote learning and virtual academy art experience more consistent for all children, I would like to suggest that the following supplies be purchased or obtained for your child’s use at home. These supplies are not mandatory, but will add more exploratory opportunities for your children as they express themselves through their online assignments. Please note that some supplies are already on the general homeroom teacher supply list. :)
You may purchase these supplies through any retailer such as Target, Michael’s Arts & Crafts, Amazon, and from any other retailer that you feel comfortable purchasing. In addition, if you are unable to obtain these supplies, you may contact me at lbinnick77@wcpss.net, and I can help to get these items to you. I hope you and your children are doing well, and I can’t wait to help them artistically express themselves this year!
Thank you,
Mrs. Binnick
