The University of Texas at Austin Automatic Admission for Summer/Fall 2019 Applicants
For Fall 2019 admission, The University of Texas at Austin will automatically admit eligible Texas students in the top 6 percent of their high school graduating class. This change to 6 percent is a result of the continued and future projected growth of high school graduates across the state.
Why this is being communicated now:
As you may know, UT Austin is required to make a decision regarding automatic admission two years prior to when affected students will enter the university. This change to top 6 percent impacts students who are currently juniors and will apply for summer or fall 2019 admission. Although this change doesn’t go into effect until next cycle, we want to make sure that school counselors have the most up-to-date information as they work with students and families. How the rank is determined
The rank needed for automatic admission is based on the projected number of high school graduates in Texas. This decision is made with careful consideration of the resources we have on campus to effectively serve students and ensure our continued commitment to student success.
We remain fully committed to Texas students and their success. The university has increased its access to prospective students — we are now enrolling 1,000 more new freshmen than we did six years ago. We have also maintained other paths to admission, such as the long-standing transfer student programs that ensure even more Texas students have access to a UT Austin education. Our ability to increase access to new students is a direct result of our continued focus on student success — and we cannot falter on this commitment.
