Why did the Germans come to America?
Where did the Germans settle?
They settled in New York, Wisconsin, California, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Indiana, Iowa, Colorado, Illinois, Nebraska, Ohio, Kentucky, Missouri, Louisiana & Georgia. Lots of people often settled in a place that looked like Germany such as Pennsylvania.
How were the Germans first years in America?
What were some of the Germans traditions they brought to America?
Some of there traditions are the oktoberfest which is a huge festival that is celebrated every year, they listen to german music, food, dress in german clothes, and do special dances. Another tradition is they have Easter egg hunts wher they hide 100 eggs and whoever (kids) finds the most gets a very special prize. Christmas trees were also a tradition cause the first chrismas tree ever decorated was in Pennsylvania. Also a german peson named Thomas Nast also drew the first cartoon Santa Claus.
What are some interesting facts about the Germans?
• During World War I, from 1914 to 1918, many Germans Americans stopped speaking and writing German cause Germany was a enemy of the United States.
• Most Germans Americans thought that the exercise was important. The word gymnasium is German. In the United States, it became to mean "a place for exercising." Children and adults went to gyms and did gymnastics.
My Recipe (Vanilla Kipferl)
Original recipe makes 3 dozenChange Servings
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup white sugar
3/4 cup ground almonds
1 cup unsalted butter
1/4 cup vanilla sugar
1/4 cup confectioners' sugar

Directions
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (170 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Combine flour, 1/3 cup sugar, and ground almonds. Cut in butter with pastry blender, then quickly knead into a dough.
Shape dough into logs and cut off 1/2-inch pieces. Shape each piece into a crescent and place on prepared baking sheet.
Bake in preheated oven until edges are golden brown, 8 to 10 minutes. Cool 1 minute and carefully roll in vanilla sugar mixture.
