Warhawk Weekly - 8/30/19
#Be A Warhawk!
The Hall Way...
"What is the best thing that you have done institutionally in your classroom so far this year?"
"What are you most excited about for this school year?"
"Which instructional strategies are you looking forward to using with your students this year?"
Mrs. Spear and I walked around to listen in on their conversations and we were AMAZED. It was apparent from our eavesdropping session that our staff is very much looking forward to this year with our students. Listening to them describe the writing, problem solving and collaboration that has already occurred in the first few weeks of school was awesome and I cannot wait to see what the students accomplish this year!

6th Grade News
Mrs. Spaldon’s sixth grade math students began using divisibility rules to find factors of larger numbers. One such rule included checking to see if a number ended in zero or five to find divisibility by five. Discussion led to the conclusion that using divisibility rules is similar to having “cheat codes” for video games, you do not have to use them, but they speed the process of getting to the end.
The Sixth Grade Team is looking for volunteers who may be interested in helping with in-school activity days on Thursday, September 26 and Friday, September 27. Please email kspaldon@wcusd200.org if you are interested in helping. Thank you!
7th Grade news
In the mono literacy classes, students have begun exploring Collection 1 which revolves around taking bold actions. We are also incorporating spelling and grammar practice into our weekly routine.
In dual language literacy, students are finishing the first text (Los tres consejos) and working on characters and their explicit and implicit traits. In AVID, students are establishing class traditions such as name tents, speech techniques, collaborative skills, and SLUNT. In dual language history, students are working on an inquiry activity with primary and secondary sources using objects brought from Mr. Medinilla's archaeological trips.
As a reminder, please be sure to check Home Access on Thursday evenings for your child's most up-to-date grades.
