The Horace Mann & Leet Connection
Online Learning May 25-29, 2020
A Message from Principal King
Dear Families,
This week concludes our distance learning for the regular school year. Thank you to all of our families for their continued support as we worked to move instruction online. If you have not yet registered for summer school, we still have a few openings and materials available.
Please join us on Thursday from 4:30-6:30 at Horace Mann to wave goodbye to your teachers and pick up student belongings. Families should plan to stay in their cars while faculty bring student belongings to you. If your child will not be participating in our virtual summer school, please plan to return any computers checked out at that time. We are also able to collect any library books, enrollment forms, or other school materials you need to return.
We look forward to seeing your smiling faces Thursday and wish you well following social distancing guidelines! The children are welcome to display signs or posters to say goodbye to their teachers.

Summer School June 8-July 2
Summer school this year will be delivered in a virtual format as we will not be able to resume face-to-face classes just yet. Our summer school team is working to revamp our current virtual learning format in an effort to get closer to what makes Horace Mann special by providing lessons with hands-on learning activities and fostering relationships with our students.
We are assembling weekly learning kits for each registered student that will have a new book along with materials to complete science experiments and practice math skills. All of the materials in the kits are for your child to keep. We will provide parents the option to pick up materials on Thursdays from 4:30-6:30 pm or they can request a home delivery option if they live in Maryville or within a 20-minute drive from our school. Online lesson delivery will occur every Monday through Thursday starting on June 8th and ending on July 2nd.
Summer school is free of charge to all current Horace Mann students who submit the enrollment forms for summer school and enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year. Non-enrolled families will be charged a fee to cover the cost of materials and lesson delivery. Please have your summer school registration submitted by May 22nd to ensure we have adequate supplies on hand for each child. The enrollment forms are attached below and can be submitted online.
Students with Horace Mann computers checked out for distance learning should keep their computer if attending summer school. We will be reaching out to families registered for summer school to find out if they will need to check out technology. Any families not planning to participate in summer school should plan to return their computers on Thursday, May 28 or by appointment with Mrs. King.
Families with questions are encouraged to email Mrs. King lmking@nwmissouri.edu or message her on Seesaw.

Phyllis and Richard Leet Center for Children and Families
At the Leet Center, family relationships and children are our passion! At the heart of our learning together, you will find educators who see children as capable learners. Children learn through investigation, exploration, and communication. Our pre-school environment is a natural home-like atmosphere that is filled with inquiry and joy each day.
The Leet Center is also home to our developing outdoor classroom and we believe that all the learning that happens indoors can also be present in the outdoor spaces. Open-ended materials and carefully cultivated spaces provide a place for collaboration, thinking, and representation of ideas. Our learning community includes educators and university students who are working together to listen and learn with children. Children, educators, and families each play an important role in honoring the intellectual and emotional integrity of children.
