From the Desk of Mr. Garrett
As we enter November, we are happy to announce that we have improved as a school from 59.7 to a 74.1 on our state report card. We are excited about this new score, but we do know that we have room for growth especially in the area of Literacy. So, as we progress into the calendar year, we will continue our intentional approach to monitor student growth and teacher guided instruction. We have also reached the end of the first marking period. It is hard to believe we are on quarter of the way through the school year. With the marking period ending, our communication with you is important. You should have received an invitation to sign up for a parent conference if you have not conferenced with the teacher. We look forward to seeing you soon to discuss your child’s progress.
The teachers and I have been working to identify an academic emphasis for our students. As a school, we are working with students to develop skills in understanding and responding to open-ended questions in all subjects. This has meant some changes in our expectations for students. We are helping our students to identify key words and answers to questions within text by highlighting and underling to cite evidence for their answers.
The holidays in November and December present opportunities for students to receive extra work. I believe it is important for students to enjoy time with family and friends, but the days off in November and December are also bonus time for students to receive extra reading and math practice to gain an edge. Teachers will send suggested reading and math practice activities home with students during the holidays.
Have a great November!
Mr. Garrett
Sr. Garrett
