Principal's Message for Friday, September 2, 2016

Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members,

I am happy to introduce a new format for our electronic newsletter type messages, which should be easier to read and navigate on your mobile device. The RMS newsletter will be sent periodically throughout the year to highlight important topics that may be of interest for our greater school community. The buttons below have been added for your convenience to provide you with immediate access to frequently referenced information and topics of interest.

While this newsletter will not replace our convenient SchoolMessenger e-blasts for day to day communication, it is my hope that you will find this periodic newsletter format to be informative as we showcase RMS events and highlights throughout the year.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns that you may have.

Enjoy your weekend,

Michael J. Bernardi

Opening Days of School

After a very quiet summer at Rochambeau, it was refreshing to hear the sounds of excited and energized students filling the empty halls this week as we kicked off the 2016-2107 school year. As I reflect upon the first week, it was nice to see students reuniting with their classmates and making connections with students who are new to our school community.

In my visits throughout the building, I saw students engaged in discussions with their teachers and discovering the many exciting learning opportunities that are in store for them as they continue throughout the year. I admire the sense of wonder in the eyes of students as they begin any new adventure. I am hopeful that they arrived home each day bursting with the same level of enthusiasm and excited to return to continue this journey as part of our learning community.

On behalf of our staff, I share in the excitement and enthusiasm for the start of another school year and look forward to building positive and rewarding relationships with your children throughout the year.

Great Expectations!

On the first day of school, Mrs. Schultz and I had the opportunity to meet with students for grade level assemblies to share the expectations that make RMS a great place for students and staff. Students were encouraged to reflect upon the journey that they were about to begin and how they could continue to make RMS a safe and respectful learning environment for all. As we continue to build upon this foundation in the days, weeks, and months ahead, we are confident that students will look back on the first days of school as the beginning of that journey in which they forged those meaningful relationships with one another.

RMS Back to School Bash: Great Fun for the RMS Community

On Thursday, September 1st, the RMS PTO sponsored the Annual Back to School Bash as a fun event to kickoff the school year. RMS families enjoyed pizza, popcorn, and ice cream served by many RMS teachers while reconnecting with old friends and making some new ones. Special thank you to the RMS PTO for sponsoring the event and bringing the RMS community together for an afternoon of family friendly fun, food, music, and games.

RMS Fitness Room: Thank you PTO!

RMS has a new fitness room for students and staff to enjoy thanks to the tremendous generosity of the RMS PTO. Working closely with RMS PE Teacher, Ms. Ristow, RMS installed many commercial grade pieces of equipment over the summer as part of our wellness initiative to provide opportunities for students and staff to increase their cardiovascular endurance. Complete with rubberized flooring and additional equipment, the RMS fitness room looks great and will certainly be put to great use throughout the school day! Thank you to students who participated in our 3 v. 3 basketball tournament and those who attended the March Madness Student vs. Staff/Parents Basketball game last year. Proceeds from these events and the tremendous generosity of our PTO helped to make this project a reality!
