East Lincoln High School Chorus & Theatre Newsletter

February 2021

The Stage Notes Newsletter is published the first of every month and contains lots of information about both the Theatre Arts and Choral Music programs at East Lincoln High School. We want to try not only to get the word out about upcoming performances but also to keep our community up-to-date on what our students are doing and how they can partner with us to produce the highest quality programs.

If you have friends, family, or neighbors who would enjoy this monthly look into theatre and chorus, share with them our website,, and they can sign up to receive the newsletter at the bottom of any page.

Thanks for being a part of our performing arts community!

Thank You, Carolina Broadway Theatre!

Big picture
In December 2020, East Lincoln On Stage was surprised with an AMAZING gift from Hickory's Carolina Broadway Theatre. It is not a secret that performing arts all over the world have been hit hard as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and local companies like Carolina Broadway Theatre were not spared. As a performance-based not-for-profit organization, months without performances equal no revenue with which to keep the organization afloat. Combined with the uncertainty of when live performances might again be a reality, CBT's Board of Directors made the tough decision to shut down the organization and dissolve the not-for-profit. After many years, the organization had collected quite an inventory of costumes, props, and set pieces that now would need a new home. The board was interested in donating their inventory to a school that was doing good things but was limited in resources. After contact to the education department at Blumenthal Performing Arts, Carolina Broadway Theatre was given our name and we received the biggest, best Christmas present ever!

While we are saddened that CBT is no longer able to bring theatre to life on stages around our community, we are grateful they chose us to honor their collection in our work using the power of theatre to help our students find their individual light.

82 Seats To Go!

Big picture
The East Lincoln StageHands are currently working to find 100 individuals, families, businesses, organizations, or other groups willing to sponsor a seat in our Black Box Theater. Each sponsorship of $100 will place a padded seat in the theater for audiences to enjoy in the coming years. Additionally, each chair will display a custom plaque with your personalized message.

There are currently 82 remaining seats to be sponsored. If you are interested and able to help us move forward with this project, please follow the link below for additional information on completing the process. If the time is not right for you, please consider sharing this information with others who might have the interest and resources to help complete the project.

The one constant during this pandemic is the need for change. The performance dates for Shrek have been pushed back into March, with opening night on Thursday, March 18. In addition to a two-weekend run, there will also be a streaming option for those unable to safely visit us in person. Streaming performances will be on April 2 and 3. Live performances will be held in the East Lincoln Black Box Theater. Tickets will go on sale March 1 with seating capacity determined by the current restrictions in place for March. Mark your calendar now for this "massive musical monstrosity!" We can't wait to see you!

2021 Sponsorship Drive Begins

We are so grateful to the local businesses and organizations who sponsored and advertised with us for 2020! When you have the chance to support these businesses, please do, and let them know how much you appreciate their support of the performing arts at East Lincoln!

We will soon begin sending out sponsorship and advertisement information for 2021. We look forward to partnering with more of our local businesses and organizations as we continue to grow the performing arts programs at East Lincoln!

Did you know that one piece of music for a choir of 20 costs $55 making the total cost for a concert around $500?

Did you know that it costs around $2,000 for rights, royalties, and materials for a musical production? Those costs do not include costumes, sets, make-up, special effects, or musicians. Straight plays are a bit cheaper, but still, have some of the same monetary needs.

While expensive, these productions are amazing and wonderful laboratory settings for students to act, create, and collaborate all while learning a plethora of skills that will serve them both in the arts and in their future academic and professional endeavors.

That's where YOU come in! We are currently beginning our search for sponsors and advertisers for 2020. Each advertisement and sponsorship support FOUR CHORAL CONCERTS, THREE MAINSTAGE PRODUCTIONS, TWO CLASS PRODUCTIONS, and a partridge in a pear tree (well, not really!)

If you, your friend, or family member would consider partnering with us for 2020, please check out the forms below. This information can also be found on our website under the keyword SUPPORT US. You may mail the forms to the school with a check or complete them and pay online.

If you have any questions about our programs, the levels of partnership, or how the funds are used, please contact Mr. Franklin.

We look forward to seeing your businesses and organizations in our 2021 playbills!
