Library News
The library is sponsoring a lot of great events this semester and we are working on keeping food in the library under control.
You are Invited to a Party in EiZ
The Education in Zion Gallery in the JFSB (part of the library's organization) is throwing a party to celebrate Karl G. Maeser's birthday. There will be food and games this Friday starting at 7:00 pm.
You are invited. It is off the clock, but you can bring friends, family, neighbors, etc because it is all for fun. Enjoy pizza and of course, birthday cake.
There will also be a prize drawing. (They have enough cake for 250 people, so if you show up fashionably late you are taking a chance on missing dessert.)
No More Lines for Motion Picture Archive Films
If you have been trying to get into the BYU Motion Picture Archive Film Series but you have been put off by waiting in line, then this is good news for you. The doors to the auditorium will now open at 6:00 pm, an hour before the films start at 7:00 pm. You can arrive early and pick your seat. No more lines.
This week's film is To Have and Have Not starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. Friday at 7:00 pm in the auditorium. Admission is free.
Food in the Library
Some of you may have heard of the chicken-cooking incident in the library. A few years ago, a student tried grilling chicken in the library to see what people would do. We, as a library, do not like this. We like chicken, but not when it is cooked in our building. Recently the library decided to allow food in most places on level 3 (with the exception of computer areas) but to keep food out of the other floors. We limit food in the library to protect our collections; food waste and trash attract insects who also eat books. And we want to keep the library smelling like books, not food. If you see someone eating on floors 1, 2, 4, and 5, you can invite them to take their food to level 3, where they won't be distracting other patrons. Your area supervisor may provide more training on this topic.
If you ever see someone cooking in the library (chicken, pancakes, etc.), please ask them to stop or report it to your supervisor or security.
Promoting Library Technology
New Poster in the WSC
The library has a huge new poster, 3 feet by 10 feet, installed in the WSC near Jamba Juice. We are promoting all of the great technology you can find in the library. The 3D printer, GoPro cameras, the sound booth and more. Most of these items can be found in the Media Center on level 4, Science/Maps on level 2, and in the Family History Library also on level 2. This may increase the number of questions you hear about technology. We wanted you to be aware. Of course you are welcome to use the technology for your school projects as well.
