How alpine skiing is played
There are 10 different events in alpine skiing. There is the men's and women's downhill, slalom, giant slalom, super-G and super combined.
Downhill has the longest couse there is .It also has the higest speed which is 120/h.
Ski couses in slalom contain flags there are also gates closer then any event. There are actually 2 courses when the event has finished both results are added to find a winner.
The gates in giant slalom are much further than slalom. There are 56 -70 gates for men and 46-58 gates for women the rest is the same as slalom.
The speed is the same as downhill and the course is similar to Giant Slalom. Each athlete only gets one try in each course.
It incorporates both aspects of downhill and slalom
This looks like he is falling but it is actually how you play
Here is a picture of an example of downhill
Here you can see most of the gates needed for Giat slalom
Did You Know ?
-ski goggles protect the eyes againts wind, snow, increased uv radiation at high elevation, and glare frome the snow
-The helmet protects the athlete from injury and should fit tightly
-Ski poles for downhill and Super-g are curved, to reduce air resistance during decent
-Skis are made of various materials (wood or compisite fibre)and are individually crafted for each athlete. Down hill skis are 30% longer than those used in slalom. This allows additonal accuracy at high speed.
-Ski-tights racing suits are made of materials that minimize air resistant
There are 327 athletes competing in alpine skiing. There are 5 Australians competing in Alpine skiing amd here are there profiles:
