Nordic News Update
week of Nov 16
Practice Updates
However, with the rise in cases and the new guidelines put out by the state, we are going to CANCEL in person practices this week. Please see our website for suggested daily workouts AT HOME http://www.cvunordic.com/practice-schedule.html.
At present, VPA sports can still begin on Nov 30, so we are planning accordingly. However, please keep checking email as things are changing rapidly. I will also continue to post pre-season workouts online for vacation week.
Lots of details for the season can be found on the team webpage cvunordic.com
Forms
Season pass information for Sleepy Hollow is here- please print out the pass form and bring in with your check to Sarah in room 200 or on the first day of practice.
TRAVEL- As in past years, skiers are responsible for finding their own rides to Sleepy Hollow. However, the school does ask you fill out this form for travel.
A note on travel: I will publish the team roster for families to discuss carpooling, however, please follow the current state guidelines regarding carpools when we start traveling to Sleepy Hollow. Information on the roster will be shared within the team only and is only for team use.
I will tape a large envelope outside my classroom door (room 200, Fairbanks Core Science) for folks to drop forms off in. You can also bring them all to the first day of practice.

Auction Dates and website
The auction will go live Saturday, Dec 5 and run until the evening of Wednesday, Dec 16.
Remember to use this sheet to sign up for a company to solicit for a donation. And if you are donating $75 instead of asking for a company for a donation, we ask you use the money to purchase a gift card to a local business.
Why do we need a fundraiser? Nordic skis need wax each race to be fast. The wax needs to be appropriate for the snow conditions and temperature. This is for both the glide wax (to glide smoothly over the snow) and kick wax (for classic skiing to kick forward). CVU supplies all the wax and the equipment to put the wax on and scrape off to our team. Additionally, all Vermont High School Nordic Programs have now adopted a No Fluoro (PFOAS) wax policy for both glide and kick wax (new this season). This means CVU needs to replace several waxes we have traditionally used with new fluoro - free versions. Note: while this is financial investment, moving away from fluoro waxes is necessary for the environment and the health of coaches when applying these waxes.
Equipment
I've put together this document to help new families navigate the equipment requirements, please email me if you have any questions. I've also added information to our webpage http://www.cvunordic.com/team-information.html
PLEASE PUT YOUR NAME AND CVU ON ALL EQUIPMENT BEFORE BRINGING IT IN - everyone will have the same equipment making it hard to tell who's is whose. I suggest getting some bright duct tape to help find your equipment and ski bag
Skirack
We do get a team discount on equipment at the Skirack in Burlington. This applies to equipment and accessories. The store is encouraging folks to preview equipment online at Skirack.com or to call the store to talk with one of the Nordic experts prior to visiting the store. They can even help folks purchase equipment over the phone or via email for in-store pickup.
Lease Packages
Skirack also offers lease packages for new skiers or those not wanting to purchase their own equipment. Details can be found here. Again, get in early to get your gear, last year they ran out of lease equipment!
NordSki aka Leigh Mallory- former CHS Nordic coach and AD.
Leigh sells close out equipment from the top ski companies to local skiers at a great deal. All the equipment is new, just different graphics ect. Most years he sells at the ski skate sales, this year he is working out of his barn. Contact information for him: Leigh4PE@aol.com or 238-3455.
