American Alligator Facts
The average size for an adult female American alligator is 8.2 feet (2.6 m), and the average size for a male is 11.2 feet (3.4 m). Alligators have a long snout with upward nostrils to help them breathe while the rest of their body is under water. Most people get confused with Alligators and another member of their order called Crocodiles. The way to differentiate between an Alligator and a Crocodile is by their teeth. The large fourth tooth in the lower jaw of an alligator fits into a socket in the upper jaw.
