Have You Been "Phubbed" By Your Kids?

“Phubbing” (aka snubbing someone you’re talking to to look at a cell phone) may not be a term you are familiar with, but it’s almost certainly happened to you. Just think about how often you are ignored when asking a question because someone has their nose in their phone screen. We see it occurring every morning here at Wredling! There are some great articles offering advice on how to deal with this - often aggravating - issue out there right now.

We hope these articles offer insight for your family as they did for us!

Dear Parents

Just a "heads-up" that all 7th and 8th-grade students turned in their device and charger during PE classes today. 6th-grade students will do the same on Monday, June 4. Will you please remind your student(s) of the following:

  • 6th Graders bring your Chromebook and charger to PE on Monday
If your 6th grader has a long-term loaner (they will know what that is) while their Dell is out for repair, they will have two chargers to return. Please have them bring in both!

  • Any 7th/8th Grader who was absent or forgot it on Friday should bring their Chromebook and/or directly to the LRC and see one of the staff members there

  • log off and shut down your Chromebook

  • remove any stickers that YOU put on (not the school ones on the back)

  • wrap up your cord(s) with the velcro strap or a rubber band

We will be making note of any student who does not turn in a Chromebook and/or their charger and a replacement fee will be added to their account in PushCoin by ITS during the summer. ITS will be evaluating the Chromebooks for intentional damage and will place fees for repairs/replacement on PushCoin. The fees include:

  • replacement charger: $20

  • replacement Chromebook: $250

  • intentional damage/vandalism: $50-250

Dear Redhawks & Families -

With the excitement of summer upon us, we know that you are looking for some fun and relaxing reads to keep your brain in gear over the next few months! This year, Wredling’s recommended reading list is in the form of a bucket list challenge. We are challenging students to cross off bucket list items as they enjoy some new reads and relax this summer. Click here to see the flyer advertising our bucket list challenge.

This program will encourage our Redhawks to experience a variety of genres and share their thinking with our learning community. The Summer Reading Bucket List has titles for all readers to enjoy! Please note that the books listed are mere suggestions - students are free to read other books that fit within the various categories. Here is the link to our Google slideshow explaining the challenge and providing several book trailers to check out!

For each book read, students need to create a short Flipgrid video reflection. In the fall, we will hold raffles to award prizes to students who participate. To create a book review, students will visit flipgrid.com and enter the flip code: b76b55. There is a teacher example provided to get students started.

Happy reading!

Sincerely,

Meghan Cannon - LRC Director

Angie Marx - Instructional Support Coach

Carrie Tucker - Reading Specialist
