Alief ISD Spotlights, Communications and Announcements
Alief ISD high school students graduated with an associate's degree from Houston Community College.
A total of 33 students in the Alief ISD Life Sciences Innovative Academy (CTE Early College High School) earned an associate's degree from HCC. This is the first cohort of academy students to earn an associate's degree. Out of the 33 students, 11 of those degrees were Associate of Arts Degree in Pharmacy Technician while 22 of them were Associate of Applied Science Degree in Construction Technology.
In addition, 81 AECHS students earned their associate's degree from HCC. Specifically, 56 students earned an Associate of Science Degree while 25 students earned an Associate of Art Degree.

Houston Westchase Rotary Club Scholarship:
This year's scholarship winners will receive $1,000 each year for all four years of their college careers. This year's winners are Abigail Orekoya (AECHS) and Vipashchit Nanda (Kerr).
Ebony Kennedy-Competitive Advantage Girls’ Basketball Scholarship:
This scholarship was created by Ebony Kennedy, a Miller Intermediate School teacher who graduated from Elsik High School. Jardyn Washington (Hastings) will receive $1,000 and Ihiechi Davis-Ekeke (Hastings) will receive $500.
Chris Hardeman Scholarship:
This scholarship was created by Taylor High School graduate Chris Hardeman. This year's winner, Katelyn Truong Nguyen (Taylor), will receive $1,500.
Parris Scholarship (Parris Foundation):
This scholarship is worth $1,000. This year's winner is Alicia Lawal (Kerr).
Jon H. Poteat Scholarship (National Technical Honor Society):
Elsik High School student Karessa Mitchell, who is also a student at the Center for Advanced Careers, was selected for the $1,000 scholarship for her work in CTE.
Questbridge Scholar:
Each winner will receive a full four-year scholarship worth more than $200,000 each and covers the cost of attendance, including tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies and travel expenses.

Dell Scholar:
Each winner will receive a $20,000 scholarship, personalized support, a laptop with a 4-year warranty, Chegg credits for textbook purchases, rentals or solutions, Scholars Resource Network and a teletherapy service that connects students to professional counseling.

Congratulations to Killough Middle School's Killough Soaring Eagle Scholarship recipients!
Congratulations to the following seniors:

The scholarships are awarded through donations from the Killough staff and are given to graduating seniors from Alief high schools who attended Killough in their 8th grade year.
Distinguished seniors were recognized during the May Board Meeting.
Alief ISD high school student Miguel Nieves was accepted into the exclusive Toyota T-TEN Program.
Memorial Hermann Healthcare System hired five Alief ISD Certified Nursing Assistant students.
The CNA students who were offered positions with Memorial Hermann Healthcare System were Taylor student Ana Martinez and Hastings students Briana Martinez, Emily Mexiquite, Tori Jackson and Genesis Gomez.
The Vet Science Program at the Center for Advanced Careers had a 100% passing rate for the Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA) Exam.

Alief ISD students were featured on a live NASA downlink with astronaut Megan McArthur.
Boone Elementary School was awarded a $5,000 grant from the Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries.
Boone is one of 205 schools from 43 states that were selected to receive the grant from thousands of submissions. The campus will be using the grant to purchase e-books for the Boone Library.

Alief Early College High School students were recognized through the Booker T. Washington Essay Contest.
Alief ISD graduate Baohan Phi and Martin Elementary School Principal Dr. Ting-Ling Sha were spotlighted by Raise Your Hand Texas.
Baohan Phi, who aspires to return to Alief ISD to teach, is currently attending the University of Houston and graduated from Taylor High School in 2019. She is mentored by Dr. Ting-Ling Sha, who was her elementary school principal.
Raise Your Hand Texas supports public policy solutions that invest in students, encourage innovation and autonomy and improve college and workforce readiness.
