To become the PREMIER elementary school in Dallas ISD

Our 2D students will lead us during announcements this week. Please, make sure students are familiar with the script and report to the office by 7:58 a.m. I would like to start announcements no later than 8:05 a.m.

We continue to make great strides toward our vision of becoming the Premier elementary school in Dallas ISD.

Let's make sure that we

  • provide opportunities to generate “rich classroom discussion” in the classroom. The rationale behind this goal is that good discussions produce higher-quality student thinking, expression, and achievement. Reformers’ aim is to replace traditional teacher-dominated discussions with “students talking in class about their ideas, asking questions of peers, engaging in debates with peers, explaining their reasoning, and sharing some roles traditionally assumed by teachers.

  • are able to stimulate students’ curiosity about something they’re naturally motivated to learn; by doing so, they’ll be better prepared to learn things that they would normally consider boring or difficult.

Attendance and Parent Portal

Regular attendance is essential to providing students with opportunities to learn. The grade level with the highest attendance for the month of January is 2nd grade with 97.7%. Also, there were improvements in attendance in First and Second Grade. Let's continue to encourage our students to be present and on time!!!

Parent Portal provides parents/guardians with three key benefits: Secure on-line access to their children's grades, assignments, and attendance; email or text alerts of absences and grade average changes; and two-way communication tool for parents and teachers. As a school, we have already surpassed last year Parent Portal participation percentage from 82% to 83%. The grade level with the highest participation percentage is PreK with 93%. Most of our grade levels are in the 80s. Let's continue to work with our parents to take advantage of this great resource.

  • Mr. Evangelister for his leadership and creativity as the choir performed during morning announcements in the 100th day celebration. Our students had a great time and did a fantastic job!!!

George Washington Poster Art Contest

Mrs. Blasingame had our 5th graders participate of the George Washington Poster Art Contest. She submitted the best 7. See below three of the posters that were submitted; we look forward to hear the results.

Our 100th Day celebration was a lot of fun!!! We were able to highlight the mathematical significance of the celebration. By celebration the 100th Day of school, we are helping our children see that 100 is a special number in the Base 10 number system. See below some of the examples of the projects displayed throughout the main hallway. It was impressive to see the creativity and integration of subjects in these projects.

Ms. Shelby e-mailed and placed a hard copy of the MOCK STAAR schedule and logistics for next week. As you may know, doing mock STAAR testing has two purposes. One of the purpose of mock testing is to progress monitor student performance and make adjustments based on the data; the other purpose is to ensure a great testing environment by monitoring the logistics of this plan. Therefore, it is very important that we take this mock testing seriously and that we talk with students about its importance. Also, this is one of the last times that you will formally be with the group that you will be testing during the actual STAAR day; so, I encourage all of you to collaborate so that the testing teacher will be more familiar with your students and provide information
