Galesburg High School
March Family Newsletter
A Message from Mr. Hawkins
Testing, testing, testing. It is that time of year again so I think it is necessary to share information regarding the testing your student may experience at Galesburg High School.
Classroom Assessments- I think that everyone has experienced classroom testing through their own educational experiences. These are tests that are developed by the classroom teacher to provide information to students and teachers regarding student learning progress.
District Assessments- Currently you may be aware that your students participate in Scantron Assessments. These are assessments that are nationally normed that provide information regarding your student's progress towards grade-appropriate learning standards. These assessments are conducted during benchmarking periods in the fall, winter, and spring.
State/National Assessments- Currently it is a graduation requirement that all students must take the SAT in order to graduate from high school. All students in junior standing, and any senior who has not yet completed the test, are required to take the SAT. The SAT testing date is March 23rd. Our 9th and 10th graders participate in the PSAT testing. PSAT testing will happen in late April.
Finally, we want to highlight a special group of students. Galesburg High School has been known for its successful basketball teams. This includes the Galesburg Thunder. Members of the Galesburg Thunder are students with disabilities that participate in Special Olympics. On Thursday, March 10th, members of the Thunder received a Silver Streak sendoff. During the sendoff, our drumline leads our state-bound teams on a parade throughout the school to be recognized by their classmates. The Thunder will travel on March 11th to play in the State Special Olympics basketball tournament. On April 1st at 6:00 p.m., these same athletes will be participating in the Shooting Hoops and Smiling Fundraiser for Special Olympics. We are proud that all students have the opportunity to find success at Galesburg High School.
In Silver and Gold,
Mr. Hawkins
