Raven Homeschool Statewide
Healthy Relationships Plus Program (Grades 7-12)
Healthy Relationships Plus Program
The Healthy Relationship Plus Program, developed by the same team that developed Fourth R for Healthy Relationships, applies the same core principles of skill building and awareness as the Fourth R programs, but in a non-classroom setting. This project targets the prevention of violence through the promotion of positive, healthy relationships. Healthy Relationships Plus is a proactive, competency-enhancement approach rather than a treatment.
Rather than focusing solely on negative relationship styles, there are opportunities to explore the positive definition of healthy relationships, including assertive communication, empathy, providing positive feedback, and active listening. The message that behavior is a choice and, therefore, we are all responsible for our own behavior is one that is critically examined by the youths in this program.
The Healthy Relationships Plus Program is a small groups program (12 youth, 7th-12th grade) and has been enhanced to include a strengthened focus on mental health and suicide prevention, and drug and alcohol use.
Examples of some topics that may be covered:
- Influences on Relationships
- Impact of Substance Use & Abuse
- Healthy Relationships
- Taking Responsibility for Emotions
- Standing Up for What is Right
- Mental Health and Wellbeing
- Helping Our Friends
Note: Parents will need to sign a waiver, as sensitive topics may be discussed. Parents are welcome to review this curriculum prior to their student attending. Raven will be offering two more sessions this academic year.
