Fun in First
Mrs. Saltzer's Class
Welcome to 1st Grade!
You'll need a book bag that is big enough to hold your binder (1 1/2”, provided by French Creek) and lunch box if you are packing. Please bring all the supplies listed on the supply list so we can get them organized and ready to use! (Note: the optional items are typically the bulky ones... they can be awkward to carry for a six year old! Please bring them to Back to School Night if you choose to supply them for the room.)
I'd also love to get to know you by reading YOUR absolute favorite picture book to the class. And it's always good to put a name to a face, so please bring in a recent photo of yourself for us to hang in the room.
We'll also have a snack in the morning to help fuel us through our busy day. Please be sure your snack is healthy and NUT-FREE. Parents, sometimes it's also helpful to discuss with your child which item in their lunchbox is their snack. I find kids eating half their lunch because they are excited about all their options. Which brings us to our next necessary item: LUNCH! Either pack a lunch (so exciting!) or send money to be deposited into your account.
I'll tell you right now, your child will be TIRED after our long first grade day! It's a big change from kindergarten! Everyone will adjust, but be sure to get to bed early and have a nutritious breakfast before coming to school to make the adjustment easier. I have a new first grader at home too! We'll all be adjusting together.
Who is Mrs. Saltzer?
I am so excited to get to know you this year! Would you like to get to know me?
This is my second year at French Creek, but my 15th year with the OJR School District. I taught at North Coventry in first grade for most of that time, but also spent a lovely year in 3rd grade. I'm delighted to be a FC teacher AND parent!
I am a graduate of West Chester University, where I received my bachelor's and master's degrees. I am always learning and eager to try things out in the classroom. Helping children become the best they can be is my favorite part of being a teacher.
My family and I live here in South Coventry. My daughter Clara will be in first grade this year here at French Creek; her brothers, Henry (3) and Andrew (16 months), will sure miss her at home. We enjoy playing outside and taking walks as a family. You may see us at Warwick Park, Giant, Target... or my favorite, the outlets! If you see us, please say hello! Believe it or not, teachers don't actually live at school.
Besides teaching and being a mommy, I love to cook, take photographs, go shopping, read, and try to watch some of my favorite shows with Mr. Saltzer. But I end up folding laundry and doing dishes most of the time!
Typical Family Photo...
Home-School Communication is very important to me; together we make the perfect team to help your child succeed.
One way I'll be communicating is via email and Smore Newsletters. Please read them. I honestly try to keep them brief.
I have also prepared a binder for each child as a way to get important information to and from school. We'll use a "Keep at Home" and "Return to School" folder in the binder. Please check the folder nightly. Send anything for school in the "Return to School" side and remind your child to check the folder in the mornings to hand in important items.
All notes and lunch money should be placed in a clearly labeled envelope (Ex: Clara Saltzer, Lunch Money). Lunch money MUST be handed in to me in the morning. I will then send it to the office to be deposited into your child's account. Please do NOT send any money in your child's lunchbox or pockets!
I am able to respond the quickest to emails, but all emergencies or urgent issues should be relayed via a phone call to the office.
