Play, Learn, and Grow in 4K

April 18th

Our little artists painted some beautiful tulips and made cute little bunnies in honor of spring. Hopefully it starts to feel more like it :)

Rhyme time!

The kids are continuing to practice their rhyming skills. We made our very own class book version of "Down by the Bay". I included some of the pages below. We had so much fun thinking of silly rhymes and drawing pictures. We've also played many rhyming games and the children are working on their own rhyming book that will come home next week.

Math

Over the past few weeks our math small groups have focused on putting numbers in order from 1-10 and discussing numbers that come "just after". The children have been putting numbers puzzles together and are also making their own counting books.

Retzer Field Trip

On Tuesday, May 21st the 4K classes will have the opportunity to visit Retzer Nature Center & Planetarium. The field trip slip was sent home in backpacks this week. During our time there we will visit the planetarium and go on a guided nature hike. If you would like to attend the field trip, but you have not submitted a background approval yet, you must submit a background check as soon as possible. It can take up to two weeks for the process to be completed. Please be sure to take care of this right away if you are interested! You can find the secure volunteer link on the home page of the School District of Waukesha website.

Summer School

The School District of Waukesha offers a summer program for incoming Kindergarteners. It is a wonderful program for all 4Kers and a great way to continue learning throughout the summer. I included a description of the program below, as well as a link to the website. Registration ends April 18th. If you have questions please let me know!

KINDERGARTEN SUMMER EXPERIENCE (for students entering Kindergarten in Fall 2018)

This class is designed to prepare children for the structure of Kindergarten. Each day children will be engaged in whole-group and small-group mini-lessons focused around literacy and math. Literacy concepts may include: alphabet knowledge, phonological awareness, concepts of print, and early writing. Math concepts may include: one-to-one counting, number recognition, patterns and early measurement. Throughout the entire morning there will be an emphasis on independently following routines/directions and being a part of the classroom community. Please note that this class runs from 8:15 a.m.- 12:00 p.m., so please send a snack and water bottle each day.

Summer School runs from Monday, June 17, 2019 and ends on Friday, July 19, 2019. There will be no class on July 4th and 5th.

Volunteer in the Classroom

I have shared a link below to the classroom volunteer calendar. Assisting in the classroom is a great way to get involved and to learn what your child's school day is like. You can choose to stay for the whole class session or if it works better for your schedule you can just stop by to be a special story time reader. While in the classroom I may have a special project for you or I may just have you interacting and playing with the kids. Please sign up for a date and time that works best for you.

4K Volunteer Schedule

Before your first time volunteering you have to complete a background check with the school district. Here is a link for the background check:
