Osteomalacia Defined

Osteomalacia is the softening of bones due to lack of vitamin D. Vitamin D helps you body absorb and break down calcium. The softened bones still a normal amount of collagen but they of a low amount of calcium. Calcium makes the bones hard.


It affects the skeletal system and muscular system if the disease worsens. The vitamin d deficiency can be due to lack of sunlight, kidney or liver disorders or drugs. Gender is not a significant factor.
