The History of Coppell Schools
Where it all began in our town
History of Coppell ISD
Coppell has roots in education dating back to the 1870s, with a small school that was likely a log cabin. Since 1967 Coppell and it's schools have grown rapidly. Coppell ISD is currently serving nearly 11,000 students in grades K-12, made up of nine schools at the elementary level, three middle schools, two high schools, and an alternative campus, bringing the total number of campuses in the town to 15.
Until 1963, Coppell athletic teams were known as the Coppell Tigers. Then, partly because of the new professional football team in Dallas, and partly because Coppell was home to a junior rodeo, the mascot changed to the Coppell Cowboys.
Today, Coppell ISD is the largest employer in Coppell, with over 1200 employees throughout its numerous branches and campuses.
