We want to hear from you!!!
Please check your email and/or text messages to find a link for a survey. In reflecting on this year and planning for next year, we would love to get your input on a few different topics. The survey should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.
After school playground usage
Our High Five students use the West Playground (3rd and 4th grade side) each day after school until 4:00PM for a recess. To be able to better supervise those students and avoid confusion, we are asking families and non-High Five students to use the East Playground from 3:08 PM - 4:00PM each day.
Team Wellness Impacts
We wanted to share with families that through the work of SASD's Team Wellness Committee, in partnership with our food service, Spooner's breakfast began offering more fresh and whole fruit offerings over the last months. We all know how important adequate nutrition is for child development and learning readiness and are excited at this improvement in our offerings.
Also, there is now a second "hydration station" in Spooner Elementary School. A hydration station is a convenient and quick way that students can fill up water bottles.
SES Roof Replacement Underway!
In a facilities study last year it was revealed that the roof at the elementary school, while safe, needed urgent attention. Fortunately the school board acted swiftly and the work began a few weeks ago to replace the roof and have it ready for the beginning of the 2017-18 school year. Please note that the work being done this spring is being done largely in non-academic areas to minimize disruptions to the learning environment. However, getting a start on the project now allows for it to likely be done for next fall.
Classroom Assignment
This spring we will begin the process of assigning children to classes for 2017-18 school year. Classroom assignment is a process that takes into account several factors to ensure optimal learning environments for all of our students by creating balanced student rosters. Some of the factors that will be prioritized include class sizes, gender balance, and student ability. Later this spring, a team of teachers, along with Mrs. Bitney the guidance counselor and myself, will meet and work to create balanced class lists for next year in order to benefit all students. If you feel that there is a special circumstance that warrants additional consideration you may submit a letter detailing your thoughts to myself though there will not be a guarantee of preferential placement.
RAILS tickets - April Focus
Beginning this week, SES students have a new goal with their RAILS tickets. Every time a student earns a RAILS ticket for demonstrating positive behavior on the playground, they will earn a star for our "Now Showing" wall. Students who earn a "star" for the wall will travel with their classes to see a movie at the High School or the Palace Theater downtown.
