November Focus-Layer on in November-Morning Experiences and Kindness Messages
1.This month I will be focused on maximizing opportunities for students in all classrooms to have worthwhile Morning Experience. The blog over the past few weeks has highlighted numerous Morning Experience ideas and the purpose of this is to see them in even more classrooms. Morning Experiences can fall into two categories: Social Emotional and Curriculum Connected. Both categories should be present in each classroom daily. Please use November to improve Morning Experiences in your classrooms. For some of our rooms, they are on the right track. Other rooms need to use November to enhance these experiences. I will be conducting Morning Walkthroughs and providing feedback in November.
2. Kindness Mindfulness November: I have included a picture from a room where a teacher (Ashley Nemo) wrote words with a Window Crayon on the window. We are going to add to our student vocabulary and write Kindness/Mindfulness Words, Kindness/Mindfulness Messages on our windows. Students can generate them or teachers can generate them and reference the messages in classroom meetings or throughout the learning day. So, be creative and I look forward to taking pictures of and sharing Kindness Messages from all of our classrooms (note: I am ordering Window Crayons for each grade level, but you do not have to wait until they arrive to begin this project).
I am giving it a try in my office--I am still working on color selection and font skills

Observational Look Fors
1. Learning Targets that include success criteria. And, Learning Targets are referenced at least 3x during the lesson. The goal is for students to be able to articulate the LT.
2. Evidence of the formative assessment that is indicated on the grade level plan.
Student Engagement: STEM project in 4th grade
The equation:
Student Engagement=High levels of Academic Achievement + Low Levels of Student Disruption
Student Engagemement: STEM project in 4th grade
Student Engagement: Math Performance Task has the students measuring, recording data, and jumping and leanring outside
Small group Word Study Look For's
Now that we have all had a chance to review Barbara's video on the 3 essential components of small group word work, our observational look-for's will be:
1. Phoneme Push-its
2. Sort
3. Chunk Chunk Blend
An observation I have made: the more flexible seating options available in a room, the more reading that occurs
Kids read more when they are comfortable (picture from Kerri Nelson first grade classroom)
Goal: add at least one new flexible seating option per month
Using Google Classroom as the Exit Ticket for math questions in Ashley Nemo's third grade room
Nonfiction reading online. In Mr. C's science class, students read a Science article and responded to the article. They accessed Wonderopolis through his Google Classroom
Melissa Locke has initiated a project: Sanford Student Ambassadors
Sanford Teachers rock: Donuts for perfect attendance on a Friday after a Back to School Night
Truth
Entry question is part of the Morning Experience arrival to Shelly Breitbeil's third grade class.
Relationship building is as intentional as the way we teach Math.
Students will remember the day that Lindsay Childs dog came to school (her dog is in the process of being trained as a Service Dog).
