Description
Originating in Germany; the German Shepherd Dog is well proportioned and very strong. The GSD has a sturdy, muscular, slightly elongated body with a light, solid bone structure. They are part of the herding group. They are also the leading dog breed in the police force.
Personality/Features
The German Shepherd are very intelligent and can be protective. They are also courageous, keen, alert, cheerful, obedient, fearless, and eager to learn. The nose are often black, the teeth meet in a strong scissor bite, their coat are often black and tan, the eyes are almond shaped, the ears are wide at the base, pointed, upright and turned forward. Puppies under six months might droop slightly. One unique characteristic of the GSD is that they love their owners but aren't that fond to strangers. Properly trained and socialized GSD won't be aggressive towards them.

Health Problems, Grooming, and Special Care
Breeding has led to hereditary diseases such as hip and elbow dyspalasia, blood disorders, digestive problems, bloating, epilespy and flea allergies. They shed bits of hair constantly and is a seasonally haevy shedder. They should be brushed daily. German Shepherds are extremely active and need to be taken on a daily brisk, long walks or run.
