The "Rock", otherwise known as Alcatraz Island, was the most secure prison in the United States in the 1920's all the way through the 1960's. It housed the most dangerous criminals such as Al Capone, and "Machine Gun" Kelly.

Gennifer Choldenko is an american writer of books meant for children. She was born on October 20th, 1957, and lives near the San Francisco Bay in California. She was the youngest of four children. She has a son named Lan and a daughter named Kai. She also has a german shepherd named Sasha.
More Information About "The Rock"
Alcatraz Island is located in the bay of San Francisco, California. It was open for 29 years before closing in March of 1963. It was the most secure prison for it's time and housed the most dangerous criminals. It also houses the oldest lighthouse, and military functions. Now the island houses a 52 year old prison, which is the prison that used to be Alcatraz.
Why you would want to read it...
I think anybody could read this book. Its a simple but exciting book that I really enjoyed reading, and I think you'll enjoy it to! Now if your not into excitement or suspense, or you just don't like books that have amazing climaxes, then this book isn't for you, but if you do like that stuff then go ahead and go out there and buy it!
