Recess during Winter Weather

Students should come prepared to go outside for recess. However, as a general guideline, if the temperature/wind chill is 25 degrees (or less), students may have a shortened outdoor recess period or recess will be held indoors.

Kindness Party Information

We will have our Kindness Parties on Friday, February 11. North Kansas City Schools is not permitting visitors for parties at this time. Passing out friendship cards is completely optional, but if your child chooses to do so, they should have one for every other student in the class. Your child will bring home a class list by February 4th that can be used to write out their cards. Younger students may want to only complete the “From” portion if that is easier for them. Please do not send in cards that include any type of food or candy due to allergies and dietary restrictions. We are unable to send edible items home with students. If your child’s friendship card includes a trinket of some type, students will be asked to wait and enjoy these at home. Students may bring in their own box from home to hold their cards on February 11, but please do not send it to school before this day. If your child does not bring their own box, they will be given a bag to collect their Valentines. We look forward to celebrating kindness together!

February Portrait of a Graduate

Beginning this year, North Kansas City schools are implementing Portrait of a Graduate initiative. This program is designed to teach students different life skills that they can use to be successful. This month’s skill focuses on communication. Communication is demonstrated by using effective listening skills to determine the meaning in a variety of contexts and articulate their own thoughts and ideas. Students will be making intentional decisions to show they’re actively listening to a speaker, using verbal and nonverbal cues to meet their needs, and respecting the perspective of others. Nashua will encourage communication by teaching classroom lessons, recognizing positive communication, and setting weekly action steps. Collaboration can be supported at home by talking about what it looks like and sounds like to actively listen and appropriate ways to respond.

The action step that we have focused on this past week is:

I can demonstrate active listening through words and body language.

Next week's action step is:
I can respond appropriately in conversations.

Kindergarten Roundup Date Announced!

Mark your calendar and tell your friends! If you have a Nashua student who will be in Kindergarten in the fall of 2022, please plan to attend our Kindergarten roundup at Nashua on Thursday, April 7, 5-6:30pm. Students and families will have an opportunity to meet Kindergarten teachers, practice riding a school bus, visit the cafeteria, and more!

Hope Week February 14-17

Hope Week will take place February 14th-17th. All of Staley’s feeder pattern schools will be participating and there is a spirit week to go along with it. Hope Week is led by our 4th and 5th grade Hope Squad members. The week will focus on promoting kindness, courage, and friendship. Your child can participate by taking part in the following spirit days, if they would like.

Congratulations to our Culture of Excellence Winners!

Each year, Nashua is able to recognize one teacher and one classified staff member as our school's nominees for North Kansas City Schools' Culture of Excellence awards. These staff members epitomize what it means to be champions for students and outstanding members of the Nashua family. Congratulations to Kali Schoening, 2nd grade teacher, and Carolyn McGeeney, our school nurse, for being peer-selected for this award! We also recognized one volunteer, Diane Shields, also voted on by staff, for her work over the last several years with our book fairs.

Attention Current 5th Graders!

Student Arrival- Important!

Reminder: there is no student supervision before 9am on regular school mornings, and before 9:45am on Thursday mornings. Please do not drop your child off by car in front of the building. If your child will arrive at school by car, please follow our drop-off procedure for car riders. If your child is a walker, please ensure that the time they leave home does not have them arriving at school before our doors open. This is critical for student safety, to ensure that they are not waiting unsupervised, and is also important as the weather becomes colder so that students aren’t waiting outside for extended periods of time.

Library Media Center Suggestions

Greetings from the Nashua Library! This has been a great year in the Library Media Center, and we are excited to finish the year strong.

Here in the library, we are committed to providing quality literature for your kiddos to both inspire and educate them. Our catalog, Destiny, is available for you to look at any time. We are also making a form available that allows you to make suggestions. We love books and especially love it when people take the time to make suggestions.

Reminders about Car Rider Dropoff (REPEATED ITEM)

  • Please ensure that your students are prepared to get out of the vehicle before you pull up to stop (ready to get out with backpacks, masks, water bottles, etc.)
  • If your child is reluctant to exit the vehicle, or if they are unprepared to exit the vehicle for any reason, please pull forward and to the left side while you resolve the issue, so that the line can continue to progress
  • For safety reasons, students should exit the car on the passenger side.
  • To avoid your child receiving a tardy and impacting their attendance, please attempt to complete drop-off before 9:12

Car Rider Line Procedure (REPEATED ITEM)

To ensure safety during arrival and dismissal we ask that all families adhere to the car rider procedure on the map below. Car riders will access their line from the westbound lane of 114th street by way of McGee street. The NKC Buses will access the bus loop by driving eastbound on 114th street.

In addition, if you are lining up early for dismissal, we ask that you not block driveways and mailboxes along 114th street or McGee street.

Thank you so much for your cooperation, as this helps for a smoother dismissal for everyone.
