FROM THE PRINCIPAL...TONY WHITE
Some kids would rather be distracted when they are experiencing these feelings and want to do anything but talk about them. Some kids believe that experiencing these feelings are their most successful method of obtaining attention from peers or adults.
My point is that kids have a thousand different ways of managing their emotions. Some ways are healthier than others, but the best thing to do is to talk it out. Bottling up feelings doesn't work because sooner or later, that volcano has to blow. As the adults in their lives that care about them most, we have to let them know that we're in their corners, ready to listen, and help them. We need them to know that all feelings are good and valid, but there are healthy and unhealthy ways to manage our emotions.
The other day, a teacher was working with a student who clearly had a lot on his mind, and he just started to open up. By the time he was done, he said it felt good to "pop the feeling." Let's help our Eagles "pop" their complicated feelings by teaching them that no feeling is a bad feeling to have (Even anger and sadness are necessary in life.), how to name the feeling, and healthy ways to manage them.
Spring is back this weekend, Norton Creek! Let's trade winter gloves for baseball and softball gloves! Enjoy the beautiful weather with your favorite people in the world, and we'll see you for our final four days before spring break!
