Hometown Hero, Emmett Fresh
Emmett Fresh is a first year Soccer Coach at Liberty High School where he leads the Falcons JV Soccer Team. Coach Fresh also teaches at Liberty High School as a Social Studies Teacher. Coach Fresh's sister, Sierra, is a dual language teacher at Free Orchards Elementary School. Emmett grew up in Hillsboro and attended Jackson Elementary, Evergreen Middle School and Glencoe HIgh school. His dream was to always be a teacher in Hillsboro. Coaching provides Coach Fresh with hope for the future. The hard work that he sees on the pitch reminds him that students can show effort and passion in many different ways and in various venues. He is looking forward to building relationships with all students and providing opportunities for students through his support as a teacher, coach, and supporter of clubs and activities.
STEAM Coaches steam ahead!
The Hillsboro School District has been supporting the role of a STEAM Coach for almost a decade now. STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) Coaches role is organize and support afterschool programs that focus on STEAM. STEAM Coaches are located at elementary, middle and high schools. Often times STEAM Coaches are in need of volunteers or program helpers. Please contact your school if you are interested in volunteering to support STEAM programming.
Volunteers Back in Schools!
If you have a passion for being involved with education and want to support a particular school, please reach out to that school to see what possibilities exist. Volunteers need to complete the Volunteer application. Thank you to all the generous people who volunteer in our schools!
Unified Soccer Takes 3rd at Soccer Regional
The Hillsboro School District Fall Unified Soccer team made a great showing at the regional tournament under the direction of Coach William Johnson. The team won 3 matches and lost 1. Unified Basketball Teams are offered at each H.S. - contact the Athletic Director at your school, if interested in participating. HSD Employs Activity Vehicles
In order to soften the burden of the CDL Bus Driver shortage, the HSD employed the use of Activity Vehicles this Fall. Carrying 14, the utility vehicle can transport small teams with a trained staff driver who isn't required to have a CDL. These vehicles will provide steady support in getting basketball, softball, baseball and other small groups to contests this Winter and Fall.

Runner 2 Runner Launches at Brown and Poynter
Runner 2 Runner is a program that teaches fitness and allows students to participate in the sport of running. Middle School Participants at Brown and Poynter participated in a 10 week season culminating with an opportunity to participate at a high school course.
THE ZONE Serves all Middle Schools
Hillsboro Parks and Recreation is continuing their longstanding support of our middle school students through THE ZONE after school sports program. The Fall Season of Soccer culminates with a district Tournament at Ron Tonkin stadium on Nov. 17th. The Fall Volleyball Season culminates with a district tournament on Nov. 16th at Brown. Winter programming begins Jan. 30th at all schools with Volleyball and Racquet sports (pickle ball and badminton). Winter Registration will be available in December at school offices.
VP Legacy Foundation Supports After School Programming
The VP Legacy Foundation's mission is to help make school based athletics/activities available for HSD youth. The foundation provided each HSD Middle School with a financial gift to promote extracurricular involvement and boost school engagement.
Chess For Success Clubs Double in HSD
Chess for Success is a local organization that supports after school chess lessons and competitions, concluding with a tournament prior to Spring Break. Currently 15 HSD elementary schools have a club.
