We Need Your Support

The end of the day is very busy in the main office. Please understand that when your child is picked up early, they are marked with an Early Dismissal - which is like a tardy.

If there is a change in your child's dismissal plan, please do your very best to call the main office by 2:45 to help ensure your child's teacher gets the message. Reserve calls to the office for last minute emergency plans.

To ensure the safety and security of all students, and to help manage our dismissal procedures, please do not go into the hallway during dismissal. We ask that you sign your child out at the office and wait outside under the awning and blue bench.

We appreciate your cooperation and patience as we safely dismiss 400 children every day. Together we can make sure our procedures are safe and run efficiently.

Parent - Teacher Conferences

Parent/Teacher conferences are approaching on December 12, 2019 from 12:15 to 8:15 p.m. This time is an important opportunity to talk with your student's teacher to discuss the progress that your child has made thus far this school year and to share your perspective with us for the year. Conferences are a two-way conversation and your insights with regard to your child’s strengths and needs, learning style, and other non-school learning opportunities can help us to shape our instruction. Should you have an extenuating circumstance that prevents you from attending conferences on December 12, please connect with your child's teacher to discuss their progress thus far at an alternate time. These conversations are such an important part of being an involved parent.

We will be scheduling conferences online again this year through Family Access. Online scheduling will open Monday, 11/18/19 @ approximately 11:00am and stay open through Friday, 12/6/19. If you do not have a Family Access account, please contact the Family Access hotline at 248-956-2190 or email FamilyAccess@wlcsd.org.

Please access the PARENT - TEACHER CONFERENCE Newsletter below for more information!

i-Ready

At this time our teachers are preparing your children for the first round of the i-Ready Diagnostic testing and some students have already taken this important assessment.

After your child has taken the assessment, your child's teacher will alert you to begin i-Ready math and ready instructional modules/lessons at home.

Parents can help by encouraging students to work on the iReady math and reading instructional modules at home for 45-60 minutes per week or more. These online instructional lessons will help students become more proficient in math and reading and better prepare them for the second diagnostic that will take place mid-year.

If you have questions about iReady, or the instructional lessons, please reach out to your child's teacher for information. We are ready to assist you in helping your child at home to become a better reader, writer, and mathematician.

Guest Elementary Safe & Healthy Food Practices

Peanut Free Classrooms

Please be aware that we have students at Guest Elementary that may have a life-threatening allergy to peanuts and/or tree nuts. Some students may not eat, touch, or even inhale the aroma of peanuts or tree nuts without having life-threatening consequences. As a result, it is imperative that we all keep this in mind when planning for any food brought into school. This year, your child’s classroom may be designated as a nut free classroom. If your child's classroom is designated as a nut free classroom, please do not send in food items that contain peanuts, tree nuts, or nutmeg. ANY non-labeled foods (home baked items included) for class parties cannot be ingested, either. This also includes food that is manufactured in facilities that process peanuts/tree nuts. Many food items are safe for consumption, but may require a different brand if the product is manufactured in a facility that processes tree nuts. Your child's teacher will notify you if your child's classroom is a nut free classroom, and will give you a suggested snack and party list of foods to help guide you with food choices. There are also nut free areas designated in our cafeteria.

Birthday Treats

With concerns for food allergies, parents may not send in food items for birthday treats. Other items such as pencils, erasers, stickers, a book for the class, etc. are excellent choices for honoring birthdays.

Snacks and Water

Time will be allotted in your child's classroom for a snack each day. We encourage students to eat healthy snacks-preferably fruit, vegetables or a source of protein if possible. Parents and students should read labels carefully to avoid snacks that may have been manufactured in non-nut free environment or contain products that some students may be allergic to. To help with recycling, it would be best to have a reusable water bottle for your child to use for water if needed. A suggested snack list is linked below and will be shared at Curriculum Nights.

As always, the health, safety and well-being of each and every child at our school is of the utmost importance to all of us. Thank you for your continued support .
