Principally Speaking
As I visit classrooms, I see students engaged and actively using technology, interacting with one another in small groups, and regularly being recognized by adults for exhibiting SOARing (Safe, On-task, Act responsibly, and Respectful) behaviors. These observations support our school’s improvement goals which target relationships and rigor.
In September, we successfully implemented the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) and Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) assessments. In addition, we added DIBELS Math to our comprehensive assessment framework. Similar to its literacy version, DIBELS Math is designed to provide indicators of the essential skills every child must master in order to become proficient in mathematics. Your child’s performance data with be shared with you during fall conferences.
Finally, parent/teacher conferences are quickly approaching. Please remember October 16th is a designated early release day. Preschool will not be in session and grades K-4 will release at 1:00 p.m. following lunch. Teachers will spend the afternoon of the 16th and the mornings of the 17th & 18th preparing for conferences and planning as grade level teams. School is not in session October 17th and 18th because these days are dedicated to conferencing with parents and guardians. We look forward to collaborating with 100% of our families. This event is a great opportunity to increase communication between school and home, inform parents/guardians of your child’s progress, and develop learning goals to guide your child throughout the year.

Sunflower's Got Talent
Sunflower's Got Talent was very popular last year with almost too many entries to fit into the lunch period, so we are switching things up a little bit. The performances will now take place during each grade level's Specials time on a designated Eagle Day!
The first quarter performances will take place on Friday, October 5 for 2nd and 4th Grades, and on Friday, October 12 for 1st and 3rd Grades.
Sign-ups are currently being accepted in the school office. A parent signature is required to signify the talent to be displayed has been observed and deemed appropriate for school (including ALL lyrics).
Deadlines for sign-ups are: 2nd/4th Grades: Tuesday, October 2; 1st/3rd Grades: Tuesday, October 9.

Kansas schools are required to establish site councils composed of the principal, teachers and other school personnel, parents,
business representatives, and other community groups.
Site councils have a responsibility to provide advice and counsel in the following areas: evaluating district and school performance goals and objectives,
determining methods to meet those goals and objectives,

Remember, the work of the site council is advisory only;
it makes recommendations, not decisions.
