Lincoln Lowdown

October is anti-bullying month and throughout this month and this year, we encourage our kids to be kind. Lincoln students again have the opportunity to take part in our Hearts and Hands club. Currently, this is open to 4th and 5th graders and they will learn about anti-bullying and then work to inform and educate our younger students. This club meets every other Friday and the next meeting is on Friday, November 1. I have also included photos from the Scarecrow Festival below, this club created a scarecrow and signs as an anti-bullying campaign.

Students will also be given a challenge every day this upcoming week. Below is a list of those-

Monday-Make friends with someone you don’t know at school

Tuesday-Challenge Others To Be Kind

Wednesday-STAND UP for Others Week

Thursday-Don't let anyone at school eat alone in the cafeteria or on a school field trip. Make it the week of #NOONEEATSALONE

Friday-Start the Day With Conversations Amongst Your Peers-Meet with fellow students and discuss how you can Change The Culture at your school.

These challenges will be announced every morning on the announcements, please talk to your child about what they can do to make everyone feel included.

Make kindness go viral with an act of kindness and challenge friends and classmates to pay it forward with their acts of kindness. Make a video of everyone doing acts of kindness and share it with me. We'll add it to our Twitter feed or Facebook page.

Thank you to our Watch D.O.G.S. Mr. Grischow and Mr. Shepke for being our Lincoln Watch D.O.G.S. this week.

In the next few weeks, we have an opportunity to join our Lincoln community and help out at Feed My starving Children. Please join our Lincoln School PTO and Scouts in giving back! They are volunteering at Feed My Starving Children on Tuesday, November 12 from 6:00 - 7:30pm. Sign up here! *If you don't already have one, you will need to create an account before you register.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday, November 25th from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, November 26th from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Conferences are scheduled at 20-minute intervals.

Sign-ups for conferences will open up on Monday, October 14, 2019 at 7:00 a.m. in Home Access Center (HAC) via the Parent-Teacher Conference Scheduler link. You will have until midnight on Friday, November 22, 2019 to sign up.

Instructions on how to schedule a conference are attached to this newsletter.

If you experience any difficulties logging into HAC, or have forgotten your password, feel free to email Debbie Fick at and list your student(s) names.

Attendance Reminders:

Doors to the school open to the students in the morning at 8:25 a.m. and at 12:15 p.m. for afternoon kindergarten (PMK). Students arriving after 8:40 a.m. (or after 12:25 p.m for PMK) are considered tardy and need to report to the main office for a pass.

If your student will be absent, please call the 24-hour attendance line at 331.228.2500.

Halloween Parties

Students are excited about the upcoming Halloween festivities. As always, parents are welcome to spectate around the outside of the school as students walk around in their costumes. The parade begins at 1:40 p.m. this year. We ask that only those parents that have signed up to help with the parties join us afterward. Our classrooms get crowded quickly, and we want to make sure our room parents are able to manage the activities they have so carefully planned for students.

Lincoln Spirit Wear Store is open!

The Lincoln PTO is excited to announce Lincoln School spirit wear is now available for purchase! There are a few new items offered this year, including a zip-up hooded sweatshirt and dri-fit performance shirts (offered in both adult and youth sizes). Many spirit wear items now feature Lincoln’s new school logo! Please visit the Lincoln School spirit wear online store to view options and to purchase: The store will close Sunday, November 3, and items will be distributed to school the week of November 18. Get your spirit wear today, and mark your calendar for a school-wide spirit day on Friday, November 22!

Dress for the weather

I am sending another reminder to make sure that you are sending your children with coats and possibly hats and gloves. As you know we have lunch recess and many classes also take an additional break within the day to go outside. We will continue to go outside unless it is below zero degrees, for this reason, students need to wear coats to school. In the past two days, students have shown up without proper attire.

CogAT test for grades 3 and 5

Between November 11 and November 22, 2019, 3rd and 5th graders will be taking the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). The test consists of three short sections, 40-45 minutes each. More information is in the attached letter below.

Veterans Day Assembly

This year Lincoln will celebrate Veterans Day on Monday, November 11th! Veterans Day is a day set aside to honor American veterans of all wars. Many of us know or have known men and women in our families or friends who have served in the armed forces to defend our country. This year we would like to take time to honor these individuals by acknowledging their time served and to honor them at an assembly beginning at 8:50 a.m. on that day. If you have a family member that is able to be present during our assembly please complete the following form so we can plan for their attendance. Veteran's Day Form.

If your child has someone in your family, or a friend of your family, who they would like to honor we are asking you to complete the attached flyer and include a photo. These will be posted in the school entrance hallway as recognition of their service, this way we can honor those Veterans near and far.
