Ancient Egypt
September 7 to 13
Gone, but not completely forgotten!
With Unit 1 behind us keep in mind that we will revisit that content this Friday with our first Image ID and in the Unit Test for Units 1-7 in October. HOLD ON TO YOUR CUE CARDS. Find a safe place for these: shoe box, plastic gallon bags, wherever you can safely stow those guys away. They will be very important for reviewing content for Unit Tests and the AP exam in May.
Unit 2 Lectures
We will be studying Egypt in four parts:
Part 1 - Painting
Part 2 - Architecture
Part 3 - Sculpture
Part 4 - The Amarna Period...a brief moment in Egyptian art where the stylistic conventions are broken, but not for long!
More on Image IDs
Friday before our Unit 2 Quiz, we will have our first Image ID. I will show 10 images and your job will be to identify the title of the artwork and the period/style. The objective of the Image IDs is to get into the habit of recalling artworks without the aid of captions or titles. On the AP exam there are multiple choice, short answer, and long essay questions. The long essays require you to name specific artworks and then follow the prompt provided. Image IDs are meant to prep you for this.
