Welcome May! This year is flying by and has been quite busy the last few weeks.I want to commend our Boosterthon Committee members, especially Denise Salisbury, for all their dedicated and hard work these past few weeks! This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. While some of the money will go to the K-2 playground, we also give back a percentage to the teachers and will use the funds as necessary to supplement other programs. Thank you to all the students, staff, parents, family and friends who support MCES!
Please mark your calendars for our next General PTA meeting! Our next General PTA meeting will be held on May 25, 2016 at 6pm at Middle Creek High School. To help inform you, in regards to the redistricting being done by WCPSS, we are partnering with the West Lake Community -- - Middle Creek High School, West Lake Middle School and West Lake Elementary to hold a Community-wide General Membership Meeting. Also, we will be conducting our PTA Board election and need your help! Due to NCPTA bylaws, we need at least 20 people to hold the vote. Your attendance would be greatly appreciated!

Boosterthon Fun Run
Thank you to the Parents, Teachers, Staff and Sponsers for the incredible success of the 2015-2016 Fun Run! As of last week we had reached OVER 100% of our goal! WOOHOO!!! This money will be used for the many PTA programs Middle Creek Elementary offers as well as the completion of the new K-2 Playground.
WEDNESDAY - MAY 4th is also the LAST day to receive pledges! Visit www.funrun.com and use Code 827-147 to register your child. Your can view pledge information by logging in to your account and viewing your students Dashboard.
TRACKS 1-2-4: Please send pledge money in by MAY 5th! Please use the pledge envelopes that came home with your student. Sponsors can pay for their pledges ONLINE or send a check payable to "MCES PTA". Students can give pledge money
to their teachers.
Thank you to all the volunteers who kept our students hydrated and marked laps as well as all the parents who came out to cheer on our runners. The students had a BLAST!

Thank you to all the moms and dads who have stepped up to fill positions on our PTA for 2016. We have a full board and a returning President. It's going to be a great year!
The following events will not happen with out volunteers-
- Teacher Appreciation (formally Hospitality)
- Grounds Day -2 a year organizing volunteers
- Membership- start of school year - attend open houses and tea and tisues
- Math Club - on going throughout year
- Track 1 and 3 room parent coordinator
We have a few more co-chair position open for the 2016-17 school year.

A Message from the West Lake Middle School PTSA
Attn: Future 6th Grade West Lake Middle School Parents
We are so excited that you will be joining the Wildcat Family. West Lake Middle has a lot to offer their students and the PTSA is looking for your help in “Making A Difference”.
For those who have not been through Middle School as a parent, there is a lot happening for both the students and parents. These are the years the students start to spread their wings and learn more independence. They begin changing classrooms and classes aren’t with the same friends all day. They become responsible for making more decisions on how to get additional assistance or enrichments with Smart Block time. While there is communication from the teachers, there are far fewer opportunities to be in the classroom. So getting involved with the PTSA is a great way to stay in touch and be involved.
We understand you have a busy schedule and we have several opportunities on the PTSA Board and Committees to fit your availability.
We have an immediate need the following opportunities:

Triangle Chess Club coming to MCES!
Who: Grades 2-5
What: Chess Lessons from the Triangle Chess Club by professional instructors
When: Thursdays: May 12, May 19, May 26 and June 2
Time: 3:00 - 4:10
Where: Art, Room 238
Fee: $60 (bring check 1st day to class made out to “Triangle Chess Club”)
TO REGISTER: Go online to register your child, so a headcount can be determined (all supplies included)

- Click “Join a Team”, on right side
- Fill out form, and submit (when you get to PayPal page, just exit, since you will be paying with a check 1st day of class)
A great opportunity to get your child exposed to chess for the first time, or to find peers to practice improving their existing skills. Research has proven there is a strong correlation between learning to play chess and academic achievement. Your child will not only build strategic and critical thinking skills, but also confidence and the art of competition…all while having fun and learning to focus.
All levels of students are encouraged to sign up. This 4-week session builds upon each week’s content, so attending the first class is very important. Make up classes are offered at the Triangle Chess Center, 5920 S. Miami Blvd, 27560.
The intention of offering these lessons is to build awareness and interest with the hopes to develop a Middle Creek Chess Club and competitive “Team" sometime during the 2016-17 school year. Parent volunteers are needed at each session to make this program successful and keep it going. You do not need chess experience to volunteer.

Class Competition for End-of-Year Pizza Party!!
On May 11 & 12, we will be having an ALL-Grades Eat-Out at Ruckus Pizza on Tryon & Kildaire Farm Rd. The best news is that the TWO classes with the best attendance will win a Pizza Party for the whole class! The best attending class out of Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades will win a pizza party. Likewise, the best attending class out of 3rd, 4th and 5th grades will win a pizza party.
Parents and/or kids can eat as many times as they’d like from 11:00AM – 2AM for TWO days – Wednesday May 11th and Thursday May 12th. [Yes, I did say 2AM – that’s for any parents who’d like to come back later to check out their adult menu/beverages ;-) ]. Check out their menu online at www.ruckuspizza.com/ruckus-tryon-village/. You can also order online for carryout OR choose to dine in those two dates. 15% of all the orders will come back to our school. Flyers will be sent home soon for you to bring in with your teacher’s name on it to get credit for your class pizza party.

4th & 5th Grade End-of-Year Outing at Jellybeans!!
On Saturday, June 4th, 1:00-5:00pm, we will have our first 4th and 5th Grade End-of-Year Outing at Jellybeans Skating Center. Come celebrate the end of school AND help raise money for Middle Creek. With every $7 admission, $1 will be donated to our school. So mark your calendars for the big event!!
Volunteers Needed for the School Store:
Tuesdays: K-2 kids welcome from 8:00-8:25am
Thursdays: 3-5 kids welcome from 8:00-8:25am
The school store sells little pencils, erasers, fun little school items for kids to purchase - prices range from $0.10 - $2.00, so kids can easily afford to buy something even with a little bit of pocket change.
