CHS Viking News

March 2020

Dear Viking Family,

There is a lot going on in our District (boundary changes, late start committee and possible high school schedule changes). There is a lot going on in our Nation too. It never seems to slow down! The world gets faster, louder and more complicated to navigate. Despite the headlines that are concerning at times, I want our Viking Family to know we are doing everything we can every day to ensure CHS students are safe and learning.

So at CHS, we are staying our course, honing our craft and doing the right work.

Staying our course means we are staying with the same initiatives in the building like Sources of Strength and teacher collaboration. No new bandwagons. We take the business of educating students seriously and are not deviating from what we know works. We are not deviating from tradition either. The Viking Country Barbecue is a long standing tradition we are proud to support and we proudly wear blue on Fridays.

Honing our craft? This means we are continuously exploring best practices in the classroom and working together to meet the needs of our students. For example, CHS just sent a group of 6 teachers to the Thinking Strategy Institute in Denver. CHS teachers brought back instructional strategies and are applying their new learning to classrooms.

We are doing the right work. Our Leadership teams meet regularly to talk about the concerns and issues in the building as well as to share ideas to better the experiences for students.

We are working on Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and ways to create emotionally safe environments. We appreciate your support along this journey of staying the course, honing our craft and doing the right work.

Once a Viking, Always a Viking!

With gratitude,

Libbi Barrett

Dear CHS families,

The Viking Parent Network invites you to our spring meeting to learn more about what the VPN is doing to support our teachers and how you can be involved.

The purpose of the VPN is to enhance and support the educational experience at Coeur d’Alene High School, to develop a closer connection between school and home by encouraging parental

involvement, and to improve the environment at CHS through volunteer and financial support. The VPN supports CHS teachers, staff and students through the following efforts:

*CHS Craft Faire in the fall

*Teacher Grants in the spring

*Student Scholarships in the spring

*Staff Hospitality throughout the year

Please plan on attending the next VPN meeting on March 18 at 5:30 pm in the CHS library.

Prom Date Has Been Moved

Due to a multitude of conflicting events (Spring Play, District Playoffs, and State Championship events...) the 2020 Prom has been moved from May 9th to April 11th.

We know, understand, and appreciate that no specific date will work for everyone; however, this date ensures that our kids will not be forced to choose between two school-related events. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Thank you for your understanding!
