Holly Academy News & Views
December 4, 2020
I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving. As we neared the holiday weekend intuitively we knew that COVID positive cases would increase, as Holly Academy is a microcosm of the greater local community. Our probable cases (meaning those quarantined due to exposure to a positive individual) have risen significantly. These cases include four classrooms that are currently quarantined. One of the classrooms returns on Monday. Of all the probable cases, few result in a positive COVID test as evidenced by the "number of probable cases not resulting in COVID" on the chart in Healthy Huskies.
If your child is impacted by a positive case, whether it is a student or a teacher, you will be contacted directly by the school. HIPPA guidelines prevent us from giving any specific information about the individual that tested positive. We understand your concern about your children, please understand that we are erring on the side of safety with each incident and we will not subject your child to an unsafe environment. As of the writing of this newsletter we are staying the course for next week. I am sending out a more detailed correspondence via Skyward this evening. Character defines us!
Healthy Huskies
If you or your Husky receives a positive COVID result, please contact the school as soon as possible. On a weekend or in the evening, you can email any of the administrators. There are measures that we have to take immediately, including contacting the health department if a student tests positive. Thank you.
Confirmed Case: A person with laboratory confirmation of COVID-19 infection, irrespective of clinical signs and symptoms.
Last week, a parent letter was sent via Skyward regarding changes to our learning mode for the week of December 14th - 18th. On Monday, you can expect to receive a schedule of learning from your student’s homeroom teacher. The information being sent by homeroom teachers will include the necessary Zoom links for the week of the 14th.
For a tutorial on how to access your Zoom meetings, please click here: https://www.loom.com/share/121679dbc8f24806b461481a66ffaba5
Reading and mathematics will be prioritized with Zoom instruction during remote learning in our Y5’s through 5th grades. Other subject areas will continue through Google Classroom and Loom videos.
Middle school students will follow a schedule that mirrors what they are doing in school a little more closely. Please look for more information to come home next week.
ALL HVA STUDENTS ARE WELCOME TO JOIN THEIR FACE TO FACE TEACHERS IN THE ZOOMS THE WEEK OF DECEMBER 14TH.
As always, if you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Potteiger at potteigj@hollyacademy.org.
