Welcome to First Grade!
Hello Families,
My name is Christina Simmons, and I am so excited to be your student’s 1st grade
teacher!
I am looking forward to getting to know each of you this year. Here is a little bit about me - I have a B.A. in Children’s Theatre and an M.ed in Elementary Education. I love finding creative ways to incorporate the arts into a classroom while still maintaining a set of high academic standards for my students! When I’m not busy lesson planning or dreaming up fun ideas for my class, you can find me enjoying my time with my dog, 2 cats and my husband, Eric. We love traveling all over, and I especially love visiting Disneyland. I also enjoy reading, running and cooking!
This year, we are excited to be expecting our first child in October! I am pleased to say that Room 205 already has a wonderful teacher lined up to fill in while I am gone - Mr. Lee. He is already participating in trainings and team meetings. Mr. Lee is a great fit in our classroom and school community!
There is much to do and learn in first grade! I look forward to working with all of you to best welcome your student into our classroom.

Welcome Mr. Lee!
Hello Parents,
Last year, I was a guest teacher in Bellevue. I didn’t know anyone, but from the moment I was in the building I felt that I was welcome. The teachers, Mr. Miller, the support staff and especially the students at Ardmore were very warm and friendly.
I always enjoyed coming back to Ardmore. This year, I am excited to be your child’s teacher, while Mrs. Simmons is away on maternity leave.
Let me tell you a little about me. I am an experienced first grade teacher, most recently with the Mercer Island School district. I have twenty years of experience teaching all elementary grades in the Seattle, Bellevue, Mercer Island and Renton School Districts. I earned my B.A. at the University of the Pacific and Washington State teacher’s certification from the University of Washington.
My interests include reading non-fiction, anything science related, biographies and history. I love to travel and visit different places. I enjoy playing tennis and watching the Seahawks and Huskies. I live with my daughter Michaela who is also a teacher and is starting her first teaching job at Westside School in Seattle.
It’s an exciting time for Mrs. Simmons as she prepares to welcome in her first child into the world and it’s an exciting time for me as I welcome your first grader to our classroom. I look forward to having a wonderful school year and getting to know your child!

Good To Know!
I will provide snack for the first 2 days. We will continue to have snack as long as we have enough for all students. If you would like to donate snack for the class, we would appreciate healthy snacks such as pretzels, fresh fruit, cheese sticks and crackers. Please no chips or cookies for snack. If your child has a specific food allergy, please let me know as soon as possible so that we can ensure our classroom is safe and allergen-free.
Homework: The homework expectation in first grade is to read 20 minutes or more as a family. You could read aloud to your child, or have your child read to you! This could be in in your home language or english as well. The most important thing is that you read, read, read!
Today, we have sent home a special homework assignment for you to talk about and work on as a family. It is T-shirt that your student can decorate and/or write on. The 3 questions we have asked are:
- Attach a photo or draw a picture of your family
- Draw and/or write about something you enjoy
- Draw and/or write about something special about your family's culture
We shared examples today! There is no wrong way to do this, so have fun!
Home Folders: Mail will be sent home on Thursdays in a red eagle folder. Folders should be returned to class by the following Wendesday!
