Special Education

  • The students in Mrs. Ellis' class got into the holiday spirit and made delicious gingerbread cookies as well as a cupcake Christmas tree!

Math Department

All students at OHS were given an opportunity to participate in an Hour of Code on December 9th. This experience introduced the field of computer science/programming to students, math teachers, and administrators. Participants learned how fun coding can be! Our department will offer an introduction to computer science course next school year and a new AP Computer Science Principles course designed to “turn kids on” to going into this field of study. Both courses will count as math credits. Teachers and guidance counselors are asked to encourage kids to take these courses.

Club News

Robotics Club

Robotics is a club where ideas come to life. You gain the ability to work with others to shape your thoughts into a moving metal machine. To see the ideas of you and your peers piece together into a finished product is extremely rewarding, especially when you watch that finished product compete at the annual FIRST Robotics competition at Hofstra. This club has room for everyone; no matter what your background (if any) there are always ways to contribute. From working on parts of the robot like the actual mechanics to drawing up designs for the robot and even making art and music to contribute to the points Oceanside gets at competition, everything you do makes a difference. Robotics is a club which brings people together (you can’t build a robot alone). Become a part of our team and help us make something great.

Message from Pat Turk...

Happy December Oceanside! With the holiday season upon us, our thoughts turn to those less fortunate than us. Many clubs throughout the school including SADD and National Honor Society have organized clothing drives for the families of our community. Cancer Awareness has worked tirelessly decorating doors throughout the High school to spread holiday wishes and cheer.

The Variety Show was a fabulous display of young and diverse talent throughout our high school. Performances from freshman to seniors dazzled the audience with acts of music, magic and comedy. A reinvigorated sense of school spirit has come with the start of Winter sports. Speaking of school spirit, Battle of the Classes is coming quickly. Students could not be more excited for the brand new parent event “Live action Hungry Hungry Hippo”. This brand new event will be sure to fill the hearts of audience members, making memories that will last a lifetime.

Please remember to vote for Oceanside’s very own Turkey Shoot in the LI Holiday Sports Heroes Video Challenge. This contest celebrates students working together for a greater good. We bring together over 10,000 pounds of food and it is ok to brag about it. Oceanside is a finalist in the competition. The link for voting is below. We’d like to wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday. We’ll see you in 2016!
