Learning Spotlight

The Lamar Archery team competed in the NASP Texas State Championship this past Friday and are bringing home ANOTHER 1st place championship finish! Congratulations to these kids and to Coach Bavousett for beating out all the other middle school teams including six other LISD schools!

Archery provides a great learning experience for kids who develop their focus, discipline, work ethic, perseverance, and teamwork skills. There are a lot of hours and early mornings that go into a team win, helping kids learn the power of dedication and hard work in achieving their goals.

Ms. Rhoades and Ms. Gordon's sixth grade Contemporary World students were highly engaged in learning this past week as they rotated through stations to explore Chinese culture. They had hands-on and kinesthetic learning with chopsticks and tai chi, participated in round robin writing to build on each other's ideas and reflections, and created thinking maps to organize and categorize information. Variety, novelty, and lots of movement kept the students highly engaged in learning the content standards!
