HERITAGE WEEKLY NEWS

HERITAGE HEROES | HERITAGE RISING | APRIL 17, 2020

Hi Heritage Families,

We hope everyone is doing well! We have heard that you are doing a great job developing schedules and completing lessons on the EPS Learning Dashboard. That’s awesome! We are so proud of you. If you need help with anything, please feel free to contact your teachers.

This week we have several tasks for parents/guardians to complete also. So, here is your homework:

🍎 1. Re-enrollment form for the 2020-2021 school year

A link to the re-enrollment form for the 2020-2021 school year may be found below and in an email sent to each family. Please complete 1 form for each returning child who will attend Heritage next year (that means the child attend Heritage for the 2019-2020 school year and will return to Heritage for the 2020-2021). When you submit your re-enrollment information, you will automatically be taken to annual Parent Input Form. Completion of the Input Form is optional. These will be accepted through Friday, April 24, 2020.

Re-enrollment form for returning students ONLY.

3. 🗳 PTO Officer Ballot for the 2020-2021 school year

A link to the PTO officer ballot for the 2020-2021 school year may be found below and in an email sent to each family. The ballot may be completed and submitted through Friday, April 24, 2020.

Just a reminder that Friday, April 24 is “April Day,” a holiday on our EPS Calendar. There are lessons on the Learning Dashboard. However, it’s perfectly OK to take a day off and do something fun with your sweet kiddos. We hope you enjoyed our Reading Rainbow video last week and our presentation of the Heritage Creed this week. We miss everyone so much and can’t wait to see you again.

Word of the Week

Big picture

Hello Heritage Families,

We invite you to practice some of our Great Expectations concepts at HOME! Each week in S’MORE and on our Harmony Live on Facebook, we will be sharing our Life Principle, it’s definition, and a quote by a famous Oklahoman or one relating to our heritage. Life principles are character principles that we are teaching the students. We focus on a Life Principle for 2 weeks. We encourage YOU to discuss the Life Principle and practice using it. For enrichment, some families may enjoy doing a little research and learning about the person/people who gave us the quote. By partnering together, we can help children learn valuable character skills that will help them succeed as students and as adults.

It's a tough time for everyone and talking about it can help. If you need someone to listen, remember our great partners at Mercy. The Call Sam (student assistance by Mercy) hotline is staffed by full-time counselors who are eager to assist you.

Harvard Social scientists affirm that just 120 seconds of powerful posture increases your testosterone level, making you feel more confident and decreases your cortisol level, making you feel less anxious and stressed.

In her TED talk, Harvard scientist, Amy Cuddy talks about her research into the benefit of daily holding a power pose for 2 minutes.

James Clear of the Habits Academy suggest that each morning stand in a power pose for 2 minutes. While you are doing that, close your eyes, breathe in deeply for a count of 3, hold for 1, and then breathe out fully for a count of 5. This will combine breathing exercises, meditation, and power poses for a relaxing and confidence- boosting start to the day. This works for children, adults, females and males.

Edmond Public Schools Launches Mobile App to Keep Community Informed and Involved!

Edmond Public Schools has launched an official mobile app designed to enable parents, staff, and students to stay informed and up-to-date on important issues, information, and activities underway within the school community. The free app is available for download in the Apple and Android app stores by searching for Edmond Public Schools.

The app features push notifications so that users may be notified about important events, announcements, and news in real-time. Users have the ability to choose which of the district’s schools they would like to follow, making their app experience personal and school-specific.

Key features include:

· Push messaging from both the district and school sites

· News

· Google Calendars

· Online grade book and attendance

· Lunch Menus

· Athletic Information

· Language Translations

The mobile app replaces the district's previous app, SchoolWay, which abruptly ceased operations last summer. The app was developed in cooperation with Intrado, provider of School Messenger solutions.
