Mission Statement
Late Start on 2/28 and Yukon Community Coffee!
I want to share my gratitude with each family for your attention and flexibility to change our "normal" routines not just once, but twice this week! Arrival for the late start on Thursday flowed smoothly and effortlessly, and I hope it was helpful to have the extra time to arrive to school safely. I also want to thank you for your attention to our re-routing of arrival traffic flow today for the Community Coffee. Knowing that our families are flexible and attentive allows these types of opportunities to shine a spotlight on our beloved school and parish community.
I heard multiple compliments on our arrival process, our school facilities and our students from various Yukon community members. Thank you for all that you do to support and grow our school. I am so proud to be your principal.
In Christ,
Mrs. Natalie Johnson
Principal

Momo Challenge
Dear SJN Parents and Families,
A recent social media challenge directed at alarming parents through perceived and potentially real risks to children and young adults, called the “Momo Challenge”, is creating concern throughout the country. While there have been no reports of student interaction with it in our community, I urge parents to become aware of the risks associated with online devices and recommend that you monitor your children’s use of social media and the internet closely. The "Momo Challenge" is an online cyberbullying hoax/perceived game set out to target young kids and teenagers through Facebook and WhatsApp. It threatens children with violence if they don't commit potentially dangerous activities.
The “Momo Challenge” is just one example of dangerous “games” and challenges through social media that has a negative impact on students and their social interactions.
Here are some tips that you can use to help monitor your child’s interaction with social media on the internet.
What parents can do
- Consider age appropriateness for children’s use of technology, time spent on social media and overall reminders of family expectations for making good choices.
- Ask your child if they know about the challenge and engage in conversations about safe technology use.
- Children should never respond to unidentified messages on social media and parents should advise their children to never share personal data, photographs or phone numbers on the internet.
- Keep their technology devices in a central location to monitor.
- Limit cell phone use.
- Urge you kids to avoid questionnaires, surveys, contests, etc.
- Create ground rules for technology usage.
- Use filtering software.
- No underage Facebook use/access or any social media.
- Monitor Instagram for multiple accounts used as "spam" accounts.
- Ultimately, Parents should model safe and responsible online habits for their children.
Please contact us if you have any further questions. Let’s keep our students safe!

Dispensation of Medication at School
Dear SJN Families,
I wanted to reach out and notify you of changes to our current practice of dispensing over the counter and prescription medication. In the past, we have accepted parent consent to give students acetaminophen or ibuprofen (Tylenol and Advil, Motrin) via the telephone. Through conversations with our Director of Accreditation, I have come to realize that this is an area that needs to be tidied up.
Please know that we are able to dispense these types of over-the-counter or prescription medication to your child, if and only if you have completed the Medical Consent Form as well as provided the medication to the school in the original bottle. Parents and families are required to supply both over the counter and prescription medications to be administered. The school may not dispense medication to a child unless the medication is provided to the school by the parent or guardian. Please complete the required form and provide the medication to the office if needed. An excerpt reviewing procedures for medication from our SJN School Handbook is below. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I appreciate your help with this!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Natalie Johnson
Principal
Medication
SJNCS does not have a school nurse on staff. As a general rule, medication should be administered by the parent/guardian before or after school. Parents may come to the school to administer the medication. Guidelines for school personnel to dispense medicine are as follows:
Prescription medication or over the counter medication as needed, will be dispensed ONLY if it is in its original container with the student’s name, name of student’s doctor, frequency, dose and date. The parent must sign a SJNCS medical consent form.
If a student has a serious illness that might require emergency medicine to be administered, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to provide training to school employees regarding its administration.
Parents/guardians are required to deliver the medicine to the school office. Medicine should never be sent with the student. Failure to comply with this endangers all students. Violators face expulsion.
All medicines are kept locked and out of reach of students.
Designated school employees who administer medicine in accordance with state guidelines shall not be liable for civil damages for any personal injuries incurred by the student as a result of administering the medicine or failure to administer the medicine.
Inhalers
By State law, students may carry and self-administer an inhaled asthma medication. To do so parents must EACH SCHOOL YEAR:
Complete the Asthma Medication Authorization form (available in the school office).
Provide a written statement from the physician treating the student that the student has asthma and is capable of and has been instructed in the proper method of and self-administration of the medication.
If these requirements are not completed, the student MAY NOT have the inhaler in his/her possession.
