August 28, 2023

Dear JHS Families,

There have been tons of really cool things happening at Jefferson High School the past few weeks! Please keep reading to learn more.

This week we will host Back to School Night on Thursday, August 31.

We will also host our first home football game on Friday night vs. North Salinas. JV game starts at 4pm with the varsity kickoff at 7pm. All freshmen who arrive during the JV game will get in for free on Friday night!!!

The Jefferson High School PTSA is looking for volunteers and donations for their upcoming event, Teachers & Staff Welcome Breakfast on Friday, September 1st at 7:00 am. Donations of Muffins, Bagels, frozen waffles and coffee grounds or brewed coffee are much appreciated. You can drop donations off at the school office on Back to School Night, Thursday, August 31st or before 7:00 am on Friday, September 1st. Let’s welcome the new school year of 2023-2024. We hope you can help and participate.

Free Breakfast & Lunch for ALL Students

Jefferson High School will continue to offer Free Breakfast and Lunch to all of our students this year. However, we still need to have families complete an application for Free and Reduced meals. The more students that we have qualify for free and reduced meals the more supports we will receive for our students (ie., after school tutoring, social workers, wellness counselors, teachers). This funding is very important to us as we provide the best education possible for our students.

Sr. BBQ

The Sr. BBQ was an amazing day for our Class of 2024. Our student leaders did an amazing job helping to bring the class together and think about what it means to be a leader at Jefferson High School.

The Class of 2024 set a very high bar for future Sr. BBQ's.

We really appreciated the assistance of our Frosh, Soph, and Junior ASB students who helped setup, BBQ, serve, and cleanup at the end of the BBQ so our seniors could just enjoy the day.

We also owe a BIG THANK YOU TO COACH BYRD for his BBQ skills as he cooked up over 400 hamburgers and polish sausages.

Senior Sunrise

Last Friday morning Jeff had over 100 seniors show up at 7am to watch a Daly City sunrise!!! It was a great morning as the PTSA provided free hot chocolate and pastries from 85° for all of our seniors.

Seniors got to hang out, listen to music, and write a note to themselves that we will give back to them at Sr. Sunset in May.

Link Crew Event @ 1st Football Game

Our first home football game is this Friday night.

All Freshmen who arrive during the JV game will get in for free!!! The JV game kicks off at 4pm.

We look forward to seeing you all there as we take on North Salinas HS.

PE Activity Log

This year all 9th and 10th grade students are required to complete a google form called a PE Activity Log. The PE Activity log is a state requirement for schools on a 4x4 block schedule. The forms will be submitted twice each quarter through google classroom. Students will be required to provide a listing of their physical activity.

Students currently enrolled in PE will only have to submit the form and indicate that they are currently enrolled in PE.

More information will be provided to the students during an assembly in their advisory class this week.

Due to miscommunication, all 10th grade students who received a Failing grade on their PE Activity Log last year will have their grade changed to a passing mark. There is nothing that we need any students to do for this grade change. We will take care of it on our end.

SF Giants Fundraiser

We’ve been offered an exciting new fundraiser by the San Francisco Giants! Tickets for an upcoming Giants game are discounted and a portion comes back to the Jefferson High School PTSA.

Go to https://fevo.me/giantsschoolfundraiser3 and use the code “JeffersonHS."

FREE TUTORING 24/7

Tutoring Support - Paper - It's Free 24/7

We are providing 24/7 Tutoring support for all of our students through an organization called Paper. Paper provides individualized online tutoring support for students in all subjects in our student's primary language.

A particularly cool feature of paper is their essay review function. Students can upload an essay to Paper and within 24-48 hours they receive line by line feedback. Many of our students have found this feature very helpful prior to submitting their writing for a class grade.

Here is a link to Paper's Website

Here is a link to the login page for students. Students should log in using their google account.
