Insect Evidence
Learning Outcomes: Vocabulary, Self-Awareness, Initiative and Curiosity, Health, Safety, & Nutrition
Are there insects living near you? Encourage your insect detective to help discover evidence of insects in your area! In this video, a child investigates cicada shells. You can take a walk outdoors and look for similar evidence like chewed up plant leaves, anthills, or the buzz of mosquitos and bumblebees!
Why It's Important
Research shows the importance of children spending time in nature. Being in nature supports creative thinking, awareness of their surroundings, self-confidence, and a sense of calm.
Not Ready Yet
Model how to look closely for evidence of insects in your area. Describe what you see and invite your child to help collect or take pictures of insect evidence.
Need a Challenge
Invite your child to examine the insect evidence closely and describe what they know about insects. Ask questions about what the evidence tells us about how insects live.
